Can you use the company truck to move your belongings so that you can save on moving?

If it's a big company, probably not. If it's a small outfit they may allow it, but make you pay for the fuel.

 

Some companies will some will not, best bet is to ask. Other option if you know an owner op that will help you out, ask company if you can just use one of the older trailers

 

Are the company's not aware when the unit (Qualcom) is disconnected?

 

I remember hearing about a driver for Star Transportation some years ago that had his bobtail down by either a lake or river. Had his family there, fishin', BBQn', just having a great time.

Don't know who he drove for after that. But I wouldn't do it.

 

Ask if there is not a policy prohibiting it.

Most of the smaller companies i worked for had no issue if an employee needed a truck for personal use. It was a perk of working there.

 

What were the names of those small companies? I think for the move I am thinking of, maybe I would need a big truck and we would be moving pretty far, and it would take 36 hours.

 

Yeah I rented one from Chicago to here in TN when I moved in 2009. It cost me $1750. I checked the ten footers are still $20. Up to 17 ft $30 and bigger $40. All plus .69 a mile. They did go up since 1990.

They show no signal but that can be anything from a tunnel to a tree. When I finished training my company wanted to drop me off in Atlanta, 150 miles from home. My trainer had me disconnect the antenna and she brought me home and didn't hook it back up until she got home in LA.

 

Was that cost with fuel? I only paid $1200 from Indiana to California not including gas. That was 2006 though. I went with Penske since they were a lot cheaper than Uhaul, at the time at least.

 

Dude you would have to pay like everybody else to use that truck. 36 hours They may give you a discount and take it out of your check, but the company is not going to do that on their dime. They might even let you do it and make you pay for the fuel. Better look into getting mayflower or a moving company to do that type of job.

 

I helped folks move from Pa. to Fla. back in '98 and it cost them a little more than a grand for a Ryder rental, although it was the biggest box truck they had. By the same token, I know another family who moved in 2002, paid a company to do it for them (same size load, houseful) and it cost roughly the same. Actually, the move in 2002 was cheaper because they didn't have to pay for the gas on top of the rental.
