Can your VA doctor do your DOT physical?

What if you are Mexican or Canadian?

 

So you're saying they're as typically worthless as nearly every other VA facility in the US?

 

Overall the VA has taken good care of me. The only real deficiency was the 2 neurologists who to put it simply were idiots. I am now seeing a civilian Physician and doing well. The VA is also good with my medications, and my immunizations as they come due. Overall I am happy, but I know the VA is not perfect. When I am dealing with the VA I keep both eyes wide open!

 

No, I'm not saying that at all. The only VA facilities that I can honestly judge are the ones I have first hand experience with.
I've heard there are some good ones, I've just never had dealings with them.
My wife was an MD for over fifty years. I'd tell her what I'd experienced and her opinions of how I as treated helped me understand whether or not I was getting good care. A layman doesn't always have the experience or knowledge to make the distinction between a responsible practice and a poor one.

 

My doc at the VA here in Abq , nm said they do not do CDL physicals

 

If you are getting the USA DOT physical exam the USA DOT physical exam requirements are what decide if you get the card or not. Maybe there are US doctors in the USA that are familiar with Canada or Mexican regs and have a volume of C or M patients to give you the exam needed for C or M.

 

That's what you would think but a USA medical is not required.
And the Dr. doesn't need all that BS
As far as a card, Canadian drivers haven't needed one of those for at least 20 years if not more.
The medical is tied to your commercial license and if you don't pass a medical then your license is downgraded.
If your license is good, then your medical is good.

 

It took me several years to figure out how to navigate the VA...but I finally got everything on autopilot as far as primary and cardiologist annual visits, meds getting mailed out and cpap supplies. As others have said, the VA is not perfect but it does the job for now at least.

I have tricare as a retiree but I haven't yet had a reason to use it because of doing everything through the VA. I imagine that could change if I ever end up getting married and want to put my wife on my health insurance.

 

My Daughter married an active duty Army Officer and today they are at Ft Campbell. She had a baby girl in April. She was here a while back and she told me how well the Army took care of her and Beth. When he finally retires they are going to settle in Tenn, I am thinking about settling there as well.
