That has been the law in Manitoba for a while. I asked the DPS with an email and will let you know what comes out of it.

No in Canada, it says in their website they have full reciprocity and some of the Dps workers said I can do it. That is why I'm a bit confused.

Here is what it says on the website....

    " Commercial licenses:

Only commercial driver licenses from Canada and Mexico are recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Transportation as having full reciprocity for driving privileges in the state of Texas."

That's for driving privileges only. In other words you can haul freight into the USA with a Canadian CDL and return to Canada. Can't switch the Canadian CDL to a USA CDL though unless you have a Green Card and attend a cdl school. Same with the Mexican cdl holders.

Oh okay, thank you for clarifying that, it wasn't clear to me. I just didn't want to start from scrach here though.

I guess the dps workers were confused about it too. Them telling I could was one of the reasons that made me move to Texas. I know Florida does it.

I asked Virginia and they told me I can exchange it. I'm just a bit spektical about it since I was told the same thing here in Texas, so I'm trying to find someone who had actually done it.

I guess they only do the regular DL transfer in Texas.

Yep you have to surrender your Canadian cdl for Texas DL and then after that you can get cdl permit(4exams), pass the cdl school and go back to dps.

Also you can only use your out-of-state licence for 90 days if you are permanently living in TX.
Moving to Texas | Department of Public Safety.
So you see driving reciprocity doesnt mean sh1t for cdl once your 90 (new resident) days expire .

Also you cannot trust dps employees on their word because they could be unexpirenced or not trained good enough.. seen it myself.
