My brother got a dedicated route to Canada before the internet was available in trucks. He wanted to find out if they dial 9-1-1 to get emergency help or if they use a different number. When I asked around I heard "why even go to a different country if you aren't going to learn about it first!". Some people have waited a long time to finally be on the answer side of not knowing. Brush it off. You ARE being responsible by asking. Canadians will shame Americans for assuming their ways are like America's ways. AND shame Americans for asking if their ways are different from ours. It's mostly an eastern Canada types (like our New York/New Jersey) feature. Western Canadians are easy & friendly. I'd say they are American, as a compliment, but some would hear it as the worst insult so I won't.

I never see bulk fuel haulers stop at crossings at all. Controlled or uncontrolled.

If you mean ON AND QC when you say ''eastern'' CA. then yes I agree with you but east of QC it changes the Maritime people are the freindliest people in CA.
And define ''American'' for the purposes of this discussion.
MY definition is anybody in the western hemisphere.

Only Fuel haulers stop for rail crossings in Ontario. I see this a few times a week as they head to fuel terminal
I hauled explosives for 10 years,,did not have to stop at rail crossings.
