That is incorrect... Volvo cannot guarantee that port for an ELD... some protocols are missing that the ELD's require... Call Volvo. they will confirm..
Even if you get the adapter, you are still missing some protocols.
This is for the ODB2
Cannot comply with ELD mandate in New model Volvo trucks. Incorrect data port .. obd2 not round !!!

Curious as to why Volvo is building something irregular to gooberment compliance .

Volvo has additional pids to interface with their internal Volvo systems like their nav systems. Outside of that, it is all there.
By the way, Cummings also said the same thing. They can't guarantee the interface to the eld to work either, so can't Mack and others. Why? Because they have nothing to do with the engineering of the eld..brian991219 Thanks this. -

Mark, you do know that all "Not guaranteed" means is that it was never tested with that specific adapter, don't you? For someone in electronics support that should be second nature.
It's all marketing crap saying you need to buy our adapter, that's all it is.
There are people here, telling the op that the experience they personally have that they do not need RM's expensive crap.
Please leave the marketing speak at home and let the people with the actual experience answer the question.double yellow and nax Thank this. -
I am not marketing btw.KB3MMX Thanks this. -
Thank you everyone!
As Mark Kling says, we can put adapters on the diagnostic plugs or wiring harnesses...but the "standard" of data was only mandated for diagnostics .... That's exactly why to get specific programming for different motors in trucks your are required to use PROPRIETARY software to the engine OEM .....
Volvo won't guarantee the data because they could be massively sued if stupid little things are omitted ... Causing carrier non-compliance! The FMCSA and USDOT are NOT to be taken lightly!
We can appear to make the ELD function but the problem is the data that it is required by law to be captured (black box data ... Not just hours of service logging) is the BIG problem here...... It's WAY WAY WAY more than just a "electronic logbook"
The correct thing should have been to require OEMs to have a ELD standard plug AND software standard to allow the public to comply !! ..... BUT as usual the incompetent govt. desk jockeys forgot that major detail.
The ELD law needs to be better written and the proposed 2 year study could've addressed this IDIOCRACY.
Support HB3282 , let's get some common sense writing laws, nobody needs another Obamacare debacle !!

The standards are given for all trucks, Volvo like others comply with it. The eld only needs a small set of indicators to be polled from the ecm, the databus can provide them without proprietary software, this is the same on all trucks and the authors of the eld specs knew what they were doing.
The plug issue is easily solved, every manufacturer has to provide a data port, so an adapter has to be possible but I blame the eld manufacturers for not providing the right adaptor.
