AOBRD is legal for 2 more years.....That is what I'll be using....Fully editable! FMCSA can kiss it!

What gets me the most is the crap about subscribing to a service, why?
I mean all we have to do is have the system email or sms the data to the office and they can deal with it but hell at $20 a month, with the number of trucks I have, that crap adds up. -
Let me know if you need it.Makeajump and Scooter Jones Thank this. -
If Mark was a technical and not a sales drone, he would know there is no company that will guarantee any 3rd party product will work with theirs. Well, not unless the 3rd party company pays them. I'm sure Volvo would be glad to say Mfg-A's product will work, as long as Mfg-A will be kind enough to pay the $10,000 testing and certifying fee. Sure the fee is 100% made up but that's the way most companies work.... -
#1 - Let's not start getting personal in this thread.
#2 - 20 years of Radio to include SSB, FM, AM, Microwaves, Power supplies, Circuit board repair down to internal runs and all repairs to component level in the military, to include 1000 watt transmitters.
#3 - 10 years of customer support (level 4) on Frame relay and Cascade switches doing live video Conferences.
#4 - Started in computers in 1980's when they first came out.
#5 - 8 years of Technical/Customer support on RM GPS's.
#6 - Test/troubleshoot GPS software.
#7 - 3 years OTR
Now that you know I am a "Technical" person, I am not and have not been in sales for anyone or any company.
Now Volvo's Port is a diagnostic port and Volvo has mentioned to the OP and to RM that this port will not support the Protocols needed for a ELD, Note I said ELD not AOBRD.
Volvo has included the ports/connecters needed to support the ELD via the fuse block. To connect to this you need a spider cable. I don't care whose you buy or what ELD you buy. I am mentioning this to help those that are buying an ELD that this Port will not support nor is guaranteed by Volvo to give you the correct protocol's needed to support the requirements of the ELD.
Now the cable is 3ft long and one user said it could be a little longer, but now you are tossing it back as a big negative. The cable works, it is a tight mounting, but yes could be a little longer. I am send this to RM to look at. You probably don't have one, but want to use the one post to stress this.
So if the Port will not give you the Protocol's needed for an ELD as is, no adapter to convert the rectangle plug to round will do this on its own.
It may support an AOBRD, but the protocol's are different than an ELD.
AOBRD - yes (need adapter)
ELD - No (need spider cable) -

An AOBRD must be integrally synchronized with the specific operations of the CMV on which it is installed. AOBRDs must also record engine use, speed, miles driven, and date and time of day, as specified in 49 CFR 395.2. AOBRDs automatically record engine data for driving time versus the use of Global Positioning System (GPS) data or a driver inputting his or her driving status hours.

Just a guess but what ever ends up on FMCSA's final list will be built in to the new tractors. One less thing for the truck load people to deal with.
What you paid good money for today will be junk in 24 months.KB3MMX Thanks this.
