Only to people that never had to work. If you open a coffee shop, guess what that means? You're going have to be up and ready before the early birds get up and ready. You would think that fool would know that beforehand, right? But even if all you had to do was get up, stand on the corner at 0500 and get paid stupid money, some people would quit because they lack work ethic.

Who knows maybe they just won the big scoop in the state lottery and now have 300 million dollars to play with?

My 359 sat in my driveway for over a year before i bought my 379. Now when i bought the 379 i wrnt right to work. It less than a week from signing the papers to hauling my 1st load.

The 359 i paid cash for, the 379 came with payments. One could sit, the other not so much.

Neither one. Get an old length of frame rail. Steel frame rail. Get it painted a light shade of high gloss gray or even chromed if you want. Bevel the end pieces, Brace it well.
You can hit things with a bumper like that.

This is the attitude I get a lot. I don't have the brains because I pay my drivers more than I make - that has actually been said to me a few times by what eventually ends up being a failed fleet owner.

My example was well funded but was doomed to fail right from the start, most are going to fail.

I have been called all kinds of names by former owners when I would buy their junk ... ur .. trucks. In the example I gave they saw the offer, the lender said take it and they called me a prick, they wanted some profit from the sale and the lender told them this is all you get, be happy with it.

I think one of the things that is sad is this mentality that everyone is in competition with everyone else. Sure I have you as competition and others for that matter but there is more than enough work to go around that most who are smart benefit from it. I guess I am wondering how stupid people can be, I get stuck watching stupid shows like "gold rush" where these idiots (I use that term appropriately) are trying to extract gold (it ain't even mining) and there are tallies on how well they did as if this is a competition. The individual idiots keep making this claim that they need to do better than the other as if they are going to win a prize. What stupidity. My son pointed out that if I ran my company like a couple of them ran their operation, I would be out of business by the end of the year.

From what the owner of our company told me on the lease on side, and he seems to be a rather honest guy , if I register it as a RV it will be hard to rereister it as commercial.

Which I find hard to believe but whatever.

I have been tied down by work and my dads past health so have not been dealing with it. I am paying 125 a month for non trucking insurance through progressives

I have been insured with State Farm for 38 years and they wouldn’t insure it with out a review.

My dad passed and he had a considerable amount of commercial property and I am Sick of living in Michigan, so my mind has been far from trucking all of a sudden

Thinking of either getting back into doing parasailing that I did for 20 years but got out because of the liability, which now I have learned is nothing compared to trucking .

Or just selling off a couple of my boats and other toys and maybe buying a bigger sailboat and going sailing for a few years.

I Hit a Wall yesterday I am Burnt at 9 months

I don’t know how you long timers do it.

In my line of work, there’s these new guys that come in that won’t even speak to other drivers. They run in and get loaded as if they’re in a race. Their goal is to beat you to the receiver. You are their enemy. They hang the bare minimum securement and they make a mad dash out the gates and down the road. The bigger the load, the more difficult things like parking and fueling are. The more difficult the route. You have to plan your move carefully. This takes time.
Why are you trying to get a load that’s 14 ft wife and 100 ft long into a Loves at 5 pm? That’s bad planning.

Some of them get high centered. Some of them hit poles and trees. Some of them hit bridges. Some of them were in so much of a hurry that they miss a turn, get caught off Route get wedged in to a construction zone and have to explain to a town mayor why no one in his town can get home. Want to see something uglier than the DOT? It’s an elected official who can’t get home. Some of them hit bridges and bring a bridge down. Some of them don’t properly secure the load and lose the load. Some of them kill people.

If I do my job properly, the mayor will never know I was there.

I went through 1 small town immediately after another superload screwed up. The DOT was there, and the local news was filming the mayor screaming at the DOT. The driver didn’t read his permit properly and wedged his load right in the middle of this town. I come by. The sign was confusing. He was on the US highway his permit told him to be on, but in his hurry, he missed the sign with the US highway that said TRUCK ROUTE. I saw the mayor screaming at the state cop. I saw the news cameras. There was a news camera filming, reporter standing with the mic in hand filming the road sign as I went by, but the truck behind me made that left turn, and the news camera spun around to film his Fup.
