You are lucky Roadmedic. Va is infamous for rousting drivers (their rest areas have a 2 hour parking limit) and lets not forget the state troopers chasing drivers from the shoulders of the rest areas, onramps, and exits.
Can't find a place to park the truck for the night?

Yes, I remember those signs in VA. Drove over my hours to get to the dock because of them. You know, I was really a safe driver because I had to do this.
Only 3 times have I ever slept on the ramp. 2 of the times it was what I call overflow at the rest areas.
I actually preferred to sleep at the docks. It was usually quiet, no much people traffic. -

Exactly what I told him. -
I was up in Ohio Thursday night they have this rest area with parallel parking and it was full but there was a space on the shoulder and I thought I will just run in here do my business and run down the road to the next area it was only about 7 pm.
When I came out there was a line of trucks parked behind me shutting down for the night so I thought what the hell I guess if they write tickets they better bring a few ink pens and prepare for writers cramp cause we are all going down together parking is a nightmare out there.
If they want to change the hours of service and reduce the time we can drive then they really need to address the parking situation. Some of these states have these huge areas old weigh stations that they they have shut down years ago(Arkansas) with lots of room to park and they have it blocked off so you cant get in there.
Every where I have been so far I have seen guys shut down where ever they can find space to safely and sometimes not so safely do so. I think it is a disgrace that these states have not done a better job of taking care of the industry that makes there states economy prosper and the people it serves.
Now you can put it in the fed or you can put it on the states or you can blame the unions or the safety Nazis but nobody seems to care and nobody seems to be talking about it. Maybe they think we fold these things up and put them in our pocket at night. One thing for sure some chuckle-head has definitely dropped the ball and we are holding the bag now I am putting my soapbox away cause I really don't have enough time in this job to say such things but that is my two cents.Whew OK I feel better now.
