They issued the license and advised me to carry the card.
Since they issued the license, I decided it must be followed. I have yet to find it in the book today, but I will look when the site comes up again. However, it would not surprise me that it would be required and something that they might just write a ticket for in this state.

You make a statement that a CDL holder is required to carry a SS card then state "they" told you to carry it. "They" could be anyone. Has nothing to do with my eyes. Why so defensive? If ya don't want to back up your statement then don't. No need to get crotchety!
-
So did they tell you you were required to carry it or did they advise you? Requring and advising are completely different.
-
The exact wording from that many years ago. Goodness.
You are required to carry your social security card.
Now, they told me.
It is the same as advising me as well. -
Please tell me where this is in the regs, I don't and will not carry mine with me and if I am told I have to, I will tell them to go to ...
People in state agencies are most of the time full of it.
Does your Military ID have the SS number on it?
If it does, then use that. It is a government issued ID and they only need to confirm you have one with it and will use the number to see if there is another one of you somewhere else. -
I will call them next week.

Don't lose it and don't skirt our word filter! I changed it for you.

I always kept a spare.
You need a SS card for tax purposes when you sign that W-4 withholding form. Some places might let you slide with a copy of last years tax return. But you better ask first.
You can go here.

There is no FMCSA regulation on carrying your SS card. Not sure why an IL license station would say such a thing, other than they just made a mistake.....maybe they misheard you and thought you were referring to a medical card???
There is an FMCSA regulation that you must furnish your SS number to a prospective employer when you apply for a driving job with a CDL.....but that regulation is not enforced, as far as I have ever heard, and I am sure if you asked a state driver license agency about it they would say just the opposite of the regulation, because they are not aware of it. I have filled out applications from a state and it did not request the SS number. Not a big deal either way, but just interesting. -
You are correct, as there is no FMCSA regulation requiring drivers to carry their SS card.
-
I know there is no fmcsa rules.
My regular license had my as number on it.
When it was changed to a cdl they said that the state does not put them on cdls and I would have to carry it now.
