I applied to Millis...nothing. I called and they just said they picked other candidates. Applied to couple of the larger training companies, nothing.

Only one I heard from was CRE...not going.

Can't figure it out. I have a masters degree, but that shouldn't be it. good work history. no violations in last 3 years, no criminal stuff. Live off 75 north of cincinnati.

I could suck it up and pay to go to a trucking school, but at this point, I'm afraid I still wouldnt get a job.

Any thoughts or advice from you experienced guys would be appreciated. I almost feel like theres something I don't know about keeping me from getting hired.

    Thanks! be safe

Please do not let them know you have a masters degree... not kidding....

I know this from my own experience....

Not looking for any arguements but it might be best to just say you graduated HS.

    just my opinion....

thought about that...but wouldn't they find out anyway? do they check for that? Plus I teach adjunct, so they'd at least have to know i have a BA

go pay for your own school and forget about the mega carriers.

They aren't worth the hassle of dredging yourself through their trash.

Just wondering, why are you trying to start a career in transportation?

This is a difficult situation.... if you had the chance to leave it off an application/resume I would. But because you are working as a teacher they already know that you are educated... believe it or not I had an HR professional help me write my resume and told me for certain jobs do not include anything higher than HS.

She explained it like this... you are already over qualifying yourself. I took her advice and got called from a trucking company...

3 of my family members are truck drivers. I drove trucks in the army 20 years ago. worked my way thru undergrad and grad school working blue collar jobs raising my daugher. Thought I wanted to be a lawyer or teacher....hate it. Daughter is raised..time for a new career...just to keep a long story short.

They know you have more options when it comes to a career. They're looking for people who will stick around. I agree with the previous post. Pay for trucking school yourself. After all, they put you through their school. Then start you out at a lower wage. So you are really paying for it anyway.

Nothing wrong with stretching your wings..LOL. Take it for what its worth, I would go an get the CDL training from a tech school or local to you community college. You'll receive better instruction and will possibly be able to stay closer to home while you go to school. As far as telling a potential employer about your qualifications, I would explain to them just as you did to me...they will then see a will and desire that you have to succeed, and will hire you, if for nothing else.... they see that you are willing to go that extra mile..(Masters)..Good luck!
