I've been looking into about 6-7 starting company and cant make up my mind. My top Picks are Prime Inc J&R Schugel US Express. What I'm wanting to know is if i go to a dry van which pays less mile wise, would it be better because I keep hearing that your sitting a lot at distributors or pick ups waiting for trailers to be unloaded and loaded in the refer division.Would van be better then refer??
I know you guys get these threads all day long but If you could just seriously give me some good advice and pointers on which one to take instead of others it would be greatly appreciated.

If your thinking Prime, have you considered flatbed or tanker ? Even less sit time.and they pay better

Im leaning toward US Xpress right now myself mainly because of the newer trucks and there driver tech system. Im only 21 so im not too worried about the money im sure it will be just fine for what I need for now but my main goal is to go somewhere that I can learn as much as I can as easily as possible. And with everything US Xpress has I think that it would be the best place to start off and get experience to go somewhere and make more doing LTL or something in the future.
BigX72 Thanks this. -
TMC Is near me but I dont think they will take me because I heard they are very very strict on there BMI and I'm 6'4 375 but more like an athletic football build. Bust still I'm almost certain they wont take me. Tanker I would love to do I'm not sure about what company's train for tanker.....critters Thanks this. -
Out of the 3 companies you listed, I'd say Prime is your best bet, and if you're in decent physical condition, go flatbed. That's where the money is, and flatbedding they can't wait to get you in most of the time. US Xpress I've been hearing some bad things about how they treat their drivers, but they do have some nice equipment... so does Prime though. Dry van is the red headed step-child of trucking, so expect shipper/receivers to treat you as such. If you go Dry Van or Reefer, I'd try to find a company that pays detention after 2 hrs... those are usually the guys sitting the least at a dock because no company wants to pay detention pay. I've not heard anything about JR Schugel. In any company you go to work for, try to stay away from lease purchases (they'll try to get you in one) unless you have a large sum of money in reserve... LP's are designed to make the company money, not you... keep that in mind and you'll be ok

I'm waiting to get my license fist which will be in 6-7 weeks tops. After that I just put in my fingure prints and $85 non refundable payment to the TSA/FBI for my "X" Endorsement which is Hazmat/Tanker. Getting that before I leave for Prime Inc Training would be a great Idea obviously?? That would be awesome if they did tanker in all 48.
I looked into Schneider but they wanted me to Re-Locate where I was living to the their Tanker division....
