We live in East Texas. We've only lived here a few months. We are from the northern states and Canada. He has been driving almost 4 years. His driving jobs so far have all been day trips so he's been home every day. We will keep looking!!

You can make more at Saia or Old Dominion doing Linehaul and be home a lot. Walmart you have days off during the week when you start until you build seniority. Friend went to Walmart his days off are during the week. I have friends that are off on the weekends now on a schedule only took a year of extraboard at Old Dominion. Making 90k-100k+ home everyday weekends off.

You have to. Waco has MM Mars. Candy people. They are mighty particular and keep clean trailers. Heck, might have a basket every load if you are nice.

Texas is a good state. I have worked in and through texas so much since about 1992 and it's economic boost to trucking is quite frankly a jackpot for me. I consider myself very lucky to have worked out of Texas. But you have to find the grit and keep looking. I can tell you once you find something down there in Texas you two are going to have a ball. Just be careful is all. Especially along 35 E or W included.

Ive met a gal down in Houston for a time back in July of 1998 and #### near stayed down there to raise a bunch of kids I tell ya. But... life is not quite what it might be sometimes, you just have to roll on.

Yes, that is walmart's policy. A lot of drivers don't make it the 1st time. The year will fly by and if he can hold out and reapply, tell him to stay where he's at, don't job hop. Walmart likes job stability. Obviously, walmart is interested in him but they have high standards. Walmart is a good job to have. I am a walmart driver and I run out of one of the TX dc. If he wants to make good money and have a normal life with plenty of home time, then walmart is the place to be. I will tell you this, it would be very hard for me to drive for another company after driving for Walmart. This is my retirement job.

Counting the days down doeesntt help anything. Right now GE Betz, Air Products, Nalco, Hazmat Environmental are hiring. They all pay well and have better health insurance than driving for WMT. Don't sit there and dwell on how many days are left. WMT sure ain't counting down the days before he can reapply.

I'm not sure where in east TX yall reside. But there are other opportunities availible. And you could count how many thousands you have in the bank. Instead of how many days left to reapply. PPL are leaving WMT for a reason.

While there is a lot of grumbling over possible changes, you don't see the senior drivers who are complaining the most leaving either. The biggest reason WM is hiring so much these days is heavy amounts of retirements. The WM fleet is older, so you get this happening.

I have no doubt that there are other good jobs out there with good pay. I don't think WM drivers have ever said they are the highest paid. They are, however, treated very well, despite the grumblers. This is in direct contrast to how most drivers are treated in this industry. While my husband may not agree with everything going on (he is at a camera test DC), the job as a whole is still fantastic.

Estes, ODFL, FedEx Freight, Saia.. anything LTL and linehaul usually pays high 60cpm. Most guys avg 80-100k a year in that part of the industry.

    Sending you a pm.
