Friend of mine in Salt Lake City, UT was born and raised in France; his father an American. He speaks 6 languages. He said he had to learn languages to survive and work in the EU. Learning the languages just came natural and he didn't really think much about it at the time.

When I was a wee lad, not old enough for kindergarten even, my aunts spoke Pig-Latin around me at times. Guess they were gossiping or whatever. I was the only male in a house full of about 8 women. I don't know how I can remember that from so long ago.exhausted379, Sons Hero, mjd4277 and 2 others Thank this.

I was thinking the very same thing.

I started kindergarten in Charleston, SC
We moved from Tennessee to South Carolina when my father got a civil service job as a diesel mechanic on US Navy ships. To keep me from being too restless on the train to South Carolina, he told me to look out the window because then I can see the train engine when the train goes around a curve. That worked and kept me out of mischief. Every now and then could see the engine though. Small minds are easily amused, I guess. -
Did you understand that what they were talking about ?exhausted379 and The_vett Thank this.

No, had no idea. I remember one of them trying to teach me, but I couldn't comprehend it.
They were a strange lot of women; they all played the piano by ear. They could listen to a piece of music, then sit at the piano and play the whole piece perfectly.

You know, when I first started running the province of Quebec, I barely spoke any French at all. Once you go past Montreal, most of the signs are ONLY in French, so I learned really quick the important things, like "Allumez vos phares", "Risque de broulliard", "Degel", and most importantly "Materiels dangereuse interdit dans les tunnel". Getting directions to receivers was a bit more difficult, with a lot of "adroit" here, and "gauche" there, followed by numerical amounts of kilometres, and route numbers, with "nord, sud, est, ouest" as directions. It's not really THAT difficult....

I’am not 100% sure but I thought there was a famous rock @ roll piano player that played by ear because he didn’t know how to read music I might be wrong

Probably Jerry Lee Lewis. His sister is the same; she's still living and interesting to watch on YouTube.
