Foumd out I cannot test out unless there is a full time position for me. I can stay on the truck as a trainee well pass my 300 but according to my SDM, I need to be assigned a truck to test out. My trainer thinks this is good for the driver. I think this is bad for the trainee. This makes it harder for the trainee to get off the truck after completing 300 hours and easier for Werner to keep them on the truck with cheep trainee pay. Also if I don't graduate, then I forfiet my $500 graduation bonus. Does anyone know if my SDM is telling the truth. Also, if I can't get placed is there away I can get my $500 bonud? Thanks,

No, your SDM is not telling the truth. There is plenty of trucks, just no frieght. They will keep you on the trainers truck as long as your willing. You might get a truck sooner then later now, frieght seems to be getting a little better, but don't plan on making much money.

I would like to ask you Werner drivers a question. For those of you that run paper logs before, how big of an adjustment was it to switch over to the electronic version? I ask because several times in my career I have run into drivers that went from Werner to companies that run paper logs and they really had a hard time doing it. I never even thought about what I would do if I was sitting at a receiver and run out of hours. More often than not they don't want you there so what is a driver to do. Normally you just drive to the closest place and shut down. Adjust your logs accordingly. I guess you can't do that when the computer doesn't see the gray area you operate in.

During the 300 hours you are in training you have to do paper logs in addition to the electronic ones so werner can make sure you know how to do them. So like it or not you get to learn them.

If you are empty you can send in a macro for whats called "personal drive time" and it will let you drive to a close by truck stop even though you are out of hours. Also you can drive 4 or 5 miles before the computer will pick up and put you on line 3.

Werner is very good about setting you up so you do not get stuck at a shipper or reciever and run out of hours tho. I only have ran out of hours once in six months at a shipper and that was because it took them over 2 hours to load my trailer..... but there was a walmart a block away so i just bob tailed there and it didnt pick up.

stay on the truck. there are spot available, and you are in line to get one. take the money they are willing to give. if you go home, you loose the $500 bonus, the weekly paycheck and potentially your job. after 30 days on loa, you are automatically filed as quit. you would have to re-hire, and re-train to come back to the company

as far as logging goes, i feel it would be easier to get used to paper logs after werner, than it would be to do paper logs and get used to werner.

as for driving over hours, there is no set min/max. its all about how the qualcomm feels like working. some days i get kicked to line 4 after 1 mile, some days i can drive 7-8 miles on line one, some days i drive for up to 45 minutes on line 4... its a finicky system, just don't try to change any line 3's.. it's #### near impossible... lol

FallsInc, thanks for the support. Looks like I will go well pass my 300 goal hours. Did not plan on going 10 weeks without a break. As for the Qualcomm logging, I believe it throws you on line 4 by default if it can not calculate what you were doing. For example, loss of signal and driving slowly. I believe the logs department may have a better explanation.

hey not a problem. i was on my trainers truck for about 9 weeks straight. he was o/o 48 states, so even if i got to go through home, we didn't have time to stop...

    just tough it out.

last night i drove about 9 miles on line 1. after i stopped, they kicked me to line 4 for vi. how about that? :biggrin_1square5:

Just wanted to give an update. I was able to test out because I was placed.

I think I am in Werner's new division called Team-Z.

Basically, I was placed with a newly qualified driver like myself.

I liked it at first but now I am having second thoughts. My co-driver is progressing backwards. My co-driver average time at a stop (eg. shp, con) is about 2 hours. This is not including customer loading or unloading time. These are simple drop and hooks. We do not idle at this time and it gets very hot. The problem with the long delay I can ensure you are something very very very stupid. At least I am placed. May not get the miles as a team but I will gain experience.
