Is Cali checking DPFs to make sure they are working? How do they do this check? I have heard they are putting a camera down your exhaust to see that the filter is there. Anybody know the answer on this? Is it just scare tactics?Second question: If my DPF is drilled out so only the bottom 1/2 inch or so of the filter is there, will that still clog the exhaust shut? I am looking for options to either get rid of this DPF or cross Cali off my card entirely.
CARB checking DPFs?

Better cross Nevada also from your list.
They have Pollution Police.
And they can read your ECM. -
Being as you are in ontario you should realise it will only be a matter of time before ontario starts checking dpf's and ecm's.The days of eliminating pollution systems will be gone.

Perhaps when I reach your posted age of 61 I will also have no longer have any interest in being independent. These emissions systems cost me more to operate my operation. Maybe I will also accept whatever the government says and take it as the what is best for me. Alternatively, I can trade in what is a good truck (minus the DPF) and buy something bran new, which I do not enjoy driving, with a motor that is unproven and cross my fingers I will be able to make enough money to make the payments for the roughly 6 months of the year it isn't in the shop.

If you tamper with dpf or def, there are no longer any fines, they just impound your truck! Im in the same situation as you where I cannot cross off CA from list. So Instead, Im looking into 2010+ trucks and replace my 04. This is a game where either you keep up and run CA or completely opt out! GL

All I was trying to say was that the MTO in Ontario can be just as bad as California. It will only be a matter of time before they do the checking.I didn't say I liked the idea. This is why the trucking industry hasn't had a money increase in years because of the added expenses, but this the reality of the world today.Am glad I can retire in a few years.

I've been told by the service manager of a large cat dealership (13 shops) that they can't see the delete software on the ECM . There is no way a cop can. However if they stick a probe in the exhaust you are screwed.

Pretty simple to tell if the Dpf has been opened up or tampered with they just give it some throttle and check for smoke out the stacks any mechanic that works on Dpf system knows that's one of the sighns of a breached filter.

That's what CARB does....It's called a "Snap Test"....
