Except carb sold this garbage on a false premise claiming that you could update for 1000 not 15 to 20 k plus the increased maint and mpg cost,..,in a game of margins where most o.o make there money by being more efficient. Than the megas this is a deal braker.....three trips to cali do not even come close to justifying the expense.,,
But thanks to cali i found far more producyive lanes in the midwest and s/e

    areelius Thanks this.

Look guys, there is a reason why fleets and mega companies are complying, actually a few -

1 - their fleets are at the end of their depreciation cycle so they would purchase new trucks anyway or if they lease, the leases are up and would get new ones anyway.

2 - They fall under the silly idiotic law that says "if you have a terminal here, you are a California trucking company. It is just like the New York state and Amazon.com tax issue.

3 - they get incentives to go to better emissions, mainly fuel economy. A fleet with 300 trucks in it can make use of a .5 MPG improvement on their bottom line. The 2013 truck I've been driving this week gets great mileage, it is a straight these past two weeks but so far it is getting close to 14 loaded (up to 40k at times) compared to a 2009 that I had last week which was consistent 10.

Now O/Os like me don't have a depreciation cycle or even consider the life cycle of the truck, we drive them until they drop so that's not even considered. All of us who are outside the state of California don't have to deal with the terminal law, even if the company we are leased to have terminals. AND mileage is not all that important to us as it is with large fleets, we can absorb some losses but not all of them so the new system used on the engines can work to our advantage but we can't justify the retrofitting or the other related costs.

14 in a 2013? The best achieved so far was 10 by the evolution. What truck you driving to get 14? That's ridiculous mileage. That can't be consistent.

I had to look that over some more too. I believe he loosely hinted that he drives a straight truck.

Oh you are correct. I read it again too and it says it's a straight.

Yep it is a straight truck for now, and it is an average 14 mpg which is driven 40% on the freeway and 50% on a road where there is a steady flow of traffic and little traffic lights.

It is 40k of payload, the trucks are plated for 98k. these are steel blocks, dies for stamping and some are huge.

No one seems to beleive it is possible to average 14, but it is possible and my own truck gets 12 consistently but that has zero emission controls on it.
