Thank you in advance for anyone who has input.

I recently left a position that I worked hard and long to acquire. I am not just interested but am going to pursue a career in trucking. I am looking for guidance. These are somewhat questions, just what has come to mind.

    1. I am single and have no plans on being attached. I love to be out on the road and looking to move towards long haul. Meaning, I have no problem working 7 days a week.
    2. I do not have my CDL. I have read that some companies have schools that you can attend. When complete you are given a job.
    3. Is owing a rig worth it? I live in Mass but am willing to relocate within 4 hours, mother is older now.
    4. I am also an avid traveler. I have no idea about this question, but is it possible to work for a company or for yourself and get at least 2-4 weeks off a year.

Again, new to all of this and I may be way off on some or all of my questions.

    Thank you again.

Many guys on here have documented their careers from the start.

There are private schools and then there are programs operated by the trucking companies themselves. That usually requires an extended stay with the company and if you fail to fulfill their requirements you will be in debt to them. The cost is also significantly more through trucking companies so look for trucking schools in your area. Keep reading around on this forum and all your answers will be answered. Good Luck

#1 ... never never never begin a trucking career and almost immediately go the lease/owner route until you've been on your own as a company driver for at least a year. You can find companies where 3-4 weeks off, unpaid is possible so long as you're willing to "clean up and de-smoke" another possibly trashed truck when you return. There are others, too who have a 2 week on, 1 week off or something similar type arrangement where you return to the same truck (Roehl, Schneider)
