No, you do not need a cell phone.......I do recommend carrying one that will only call 911 with you in case the need arises. Never tell your ocmpany you have a cell....deny having one if necessary.

Is there anyway to get around doing the crap Werner makes Newbies do??

Refuse to work for them. It is up to you. Only you are responsible for you.

Search the forum for the term Per Diem, Turbo Trucker posted some very good information on the subject. And as I posted earlier and quoted above, Per Diem KILLS you at Tax time

The easist way i know to explain per diam this. Basicaly depending on the company you work for you get a certain % to make up for your exspence. what this means to you is more money in your pocket now, However as a truck driver you are alowed so much money you can write off per day( not sure the % off the top of my head). when you take per diam you can not write off anything work related. this means that aacording to the goverment you make less money then you actualy make thus screwing you when it comes tax season.
for example( this by no means is real example it will just give you a idea)
ok say you make $500 a week and you do not take a per diam you will be taxed at the full rate and make close to $420 a week.
now say you you do take per diam you will make more then $420 Probably
around $435- $440 but you will be taxed only for the $420 thus meaning
you will be bring home $22.880 a year of actual take home pay but only be taxed for $21.840 ( again this is not even close to being an acurate example). now i have heard some drivers say they have had problem's with lender's telling them they can't aford somthing they could.
It was started to help driver in there day to day life, not the long term.
and like every thing else that helps the driver out. thre are countless companies that abuse it. i have never takken it and would not work any where that required it. HOPE it was helpful to ya. and before you decide talk to a taxman, someone that knows all the ins and outs of taxes for trucking ( you most likley will not find this at h&r block.)

Per Diem is basically a "payment" for being away from ones home overnite.
The more nights away, the better (to some) the Per Diem becomes.
Also, Per Diem is at various amounts where the standard (to me) seems to hover around $34.00 to $36.00 a day, or night.
I've heard as much as $44.00 per day however I wasn't able to acquire this amount as there was additional "red tape" involved and I don't recall what it was/is.
Some companies offer Hotel/Motel stays as well and some folk use this money as Per Diem. There are other "allowances" that companies offer as well, with some of these "allowances" coming directly back to the company from YOUR pay. BEWARE means Be Aware.

"Per Diem kills at tax time", ONLY affects those that do taxes.
I have not filed taxes with both my state and the feds since '92, nor have I EVER received ANY type letter.

Werner is NOT A GOOD CHOICE unless one is financially independent, of course if then, why go into Trucking.
Crete is what it is as are a lot of the others.
Shy away from: c. r. england(reefer), jbhunt, swift, stevens transport(reefer). Some Reefers are like having a Lawnmower in ones sleeper.

Check out the MANY INFORMATIVE threads here in the Truckers Report for additional information regarding Trucking Companies.

I agree, unfortunetly Werner does not have the best ratio of stability or trust in telling their drivers the truth. So my advice to you, if you can stick it out for one full year and stay clean with DOT. then you can go just about anywhere, this job is not for everyone and if you make it your goal and your determined to see this through, it can be very rewarding. The first year with "ANY" company is the hardest.
As for Per Diam: its basicly a set amount that is used per day for just about anything such as; fuel, hotels, taxes etc. that is all I really know. If you had to pay for your own Fuel and they said they would give you .19 cents back "per diam" then you would get .19 cents on every "fixed amount you pay for fuel such as..2. 50 a gal. so for every gallon you would get .19 cents off. At least that is what I was told. So if I am wrong I am sure someone will come along and correct me. Good Luck, and Stay Safe!!

the term comes from latin, meaning per day,or an allowance for expenditures on a day by day basis

But how does this affect my taxes? Will I have to PAY IN at the end of the year? I usually claim just 1 on my W2 then get more back at the end.
I'm just wondering if I need to take advantage of the per diem that Werner offers to help by day by day expenses till I get going. I'll have 4 weeks of cdl school that I will not be bringing in ANY $$. Thank God that my wife can still work for those 4 weeks. Then I'll have 8 weeks of training and only make $1350 with wife not being able to work!! (kids) But after the 12 weeks of school and training I'll be okay money wise (after a few weeks) That's why I'm wondering if I SHOULD use the per diem for awhile..

You continue to ask the same questions and many have answered it over and over. I even told you to search the forum for the right answer but apparently you are unable to find the search button, so I'll post the link for you here. I'll do your work for you......

    There is your answer............

Thais might sound harsh to the rest of you here, but c'mon! If the guy can't read do we really think he has chance in this industry?

The bottom line is that Per Diem is a rip off...Avoid it......
