I've been doing for about 7 years now in South Carolina. It's hard finding reliable help here. I'm happy with different answers cause it can help me see the ups and downs. I've known people that lasted a year cause they just didn't like it and I know there's people on here who have done it for years and love it. Its definitely a tough decision that I know I have to make, just to make things end and have a better future without having to worry month to month am I gonna afford my bills.
Career choice, get my CDL at 20?

That depends on who your first carrier is.
With Schneider -- I doubt it.

EVERYONE imagines trucking is just like that one long car trip they took in the past only they also get paid lots of money to casually drive to some beautiful national park. That is NOT truck driving. Shipper and receivers make appointments, drag their feet as much as necessary to do their job and then drag their feet loading/unloading your truck and then tell the other shipper/receiver the load is probably late because that lazy, filthy, no-good truck driver probably overslept or is gambling or wh*ring around some truck stop. Imagine all the pressure you have now, but had 2 rush hours per day, never being in a familiar location, not knowing if you will find a place to park so you can sleep and eating nothing but fast-food made by former meth addicts, and losing touch with friends/family. It's also slow and the economy is about to have a recession that will make 2008 look like one rainy Sunday. -
Sadly -- the above post is all too accurate.
Especially with most reefer fleets.

Choose a good cdl school that's at least 160 hours.
