I've been lurking the forums for a while and need some advice from ChinaTown or someone with extensive knowledge in the industry. I've decided to go all in and have ordered (2) CDL Training Books and I'm currently studying 8+ hours a day starting this week. (I know they will teach me what I need to know to pass) in school. But I want to be ahead of the game so I can breeze through the written part and that way I can focus more on my driving skills.
I'll start with my background / history because I know this is the most important. The Bad: I was arrested for Evading, Possession of Marijuana, and Aggravated Assault on an officer in 2011. I had a high dollar lawyer, he pushed the trial back year after year, all the way until 2019. In 2019, I beat the assault charge, it was dismissed, and he got me a (14) days in County Jail for the Felony and Misdemeanor time served. I had a great lawyer and the courts said that I hadn't a single charge or even a speeding ticket and almost 10 years. So I got off lucky with Time Served 14 days on the felony charge.
The problem is, the charge is now 10 years old, but it looks like I was recently convicted.
The Good: I have 10 years of STABLE and VERIFIABLE work history and have no problems with substances or drug test.
With that said, I will be attending Community Truck Driving School in Round Rock, Texas. I'll be paying out of pocket. I know my options are limited when graduating until I get some experience, especially having the charges.
So what I need help with is:
1. I know I'm going to have to start off at the very bottom of the ladder given my conditions and I'm willing to do that even if it means starting with the worst of the worst. Carolina Cargo or possibly Roadtex, do I have any other options? Possibly some companies located near Texas?
2. After completing my 6-12 months OTR, what local Texas companies would you suggest that can set up a long term career path, good pay, and home daily or weekends close to Austin, where I recently relocated?
At the top of my list after getting some experience as of right now is: Cardinal Logistics, YRC, Old Dominion, and Ryder.
I want to set up a path forward and like I said, I know it is going to mean starting from the very bottom of the pole for the first year and I'm willing to do it. I know these 2nd chance companies pay little, but I'm lucky, other than a $1k mortgage, my trucks paid off, and I have no other bills.
Look forward to hearing your advice!

The jail time is two yrs. old so probably can get with a decent company.
Carolina Cargo is no longer a 2nd chance company anyway.
Do you live in Round Rock? Which town/city is your domicile?
OK. I see you're near Austin, TX. Is that correct?
