Oh, talking about bring back bad memories. I hated that place and the first time going there I thought it would be so cool, Dodge City and all. I am so glad to not haul a reffer anymore.

Things are getting even worse. According to a msg that my company sent me, Dodge City is in the process of having signs put up and no trks will be allowed in Dodge. Will have to use the by passes. Sounds like no more michee dee's for me.
Cousin called me up yesterday and said that the flying j now had a resturant. Wonder what it is? -
The last time I was there they said it was going to be a Subway... hmm...
-
Well, they need a 3rd subway in town like I need another hole in my head!!!! lol
-
Needs to be a Hooters!!!
-
Maybe it's a Dennys! Yum! Home cookin' style food!
-
That Flippin' J restaurant that was there was reasonably good - for a Flippin' J. Many locals spent money there. When I talked to the night manager at the place last year, she told me it would be Subway.
Right... just what the world needs. Another stinkin' Subway. -
The Golden Pancake House down the street is really good as is Montana Mike's.

I hauled my first and last load for Cargill a couple of months ago... First off, it took 14 hours to get loaded, go figure... Thanks to the loading delay, I had to run extra hard to get to Bronx, NY... Then it got interesting.. I go check in, and get informed that the load I had on me was cancelled DAYS ago, and was to be redirected to their cold storage facility in Albany, GA!!!!!!!!
This is at 6am. I call the broker I got the load from, and they get to making phone calls to Cargill, meanwhile, I already had 2 local runs and a long run lined up for after this load gets off the truck.
At noon, i'm getting the run around, Cargill admits they screwed up, and give me 2 options, take it to another cold storage in NYC, or deliver it to Albany, GA. I told them how much I would charge to deliver to GA, and they declined my offer, because it was double the going rate for that lane. I told them $2500, and I wouldn't say a word about detention for being jerked around all day loading, and now unloading. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't being greedy, I was asking for the amount of my pre-arranged loads that I was going to have to cancel on to go to GA. When they declined my offer, I said to arrange that cold storage drop off that they offered in the first place, and to get ready to pay detention, and they said OK...
4 in the afternoon, I'm Still waiting.. I start calling everyone and raising hell. They are having trouble setting up a cold storage drop apparently, and come up a little on their offer to deliver to GA. I again tell them it does not compensate me for what I am losing thanks to their mistake. At this point, I've already had to cancel on my two local loads, and I'm extremely aggravated. I explain to them now that I've fulfilled my first contract, and they now have 2 options. Pay me what I've now lost to deliver it to cold storage, so I can still make my next pickup, or pay me what I was asking in the first place to go to GA. Again, they will get back to me.
6pm, I'm still in the Bronx, and IRATE... They try to haggle price again!!!! I tell them I will find my own cold storage for the load, and their tune changes.. REAL FAST, they agreed to my price, and say they will look at my detention pay when the load is completed. By now, it is late Thursday afternoon, and since they drug their feet 12 hours, they cant schedule the delivery to GA until MONDAY!!! So, I mention finding my own cold storage again, and they agree to weekend layover pay as well.
Next morning, I start heading to GA, and since I live in SC, I got layover pay for sleeping in my own bed
, and in the end, cargill paid me almost double what I asked for to go to GA at noon!!!!

You must have loaded in Mt. Crawford, Va. I sit there one day for over 12 hours and not one thing was ever put on the trailer. Walked into the shipping office @ 1am and asked when they were going to get me loaded, cause I had 1200 miles to run with an appointment the next morning @ 6am. The response, "well driver that is your problem". I solved my problem. I left!jbatmick Thanks this.
