Okay, that makes sense. I wasn't sure if the industry had gone tobacco crazy like everything else. I don't normally smoke, but I do enjoy a good cigar on occasion. Sometimes I even smoke one of my pipes.

I already have my CDL, but its been a few years since I drove so I am positive I will have to go through a driving school again. I need it anyway. Are you guys allowed to give a roundabout number of what a new driver would make there? Also, how close to the terminal do you need to live? My hometown is about 1 ½ hours away, depending on traffic. Would they do a conditional hiring depending on driver school outcome and do they have a preference of which school to attend?
I am still a few weeks out of returning to NC, but I am looking at several options and want to make the best move. Honestly, I am seriously looking at Schneider right now with Conway second, but Cargo seems like a really nice setup as well.

I averaged 50k a year when I was there. Some people did a lot better than that. Others worse. -
How could you do worse unless you didn't want to work.

also I used to try to get as many layovers as I possibly could, if I had an 8 AM appointment, I would try to get there the night before before 8 PM so that I can truthfully say I was there for 12 hours before getting unloaded, therefore getting $50. -
That's smart anymore good tips

Hamburger, check with recruiters and see if they will accept a 40 hour refresher course. There's one offered by the NC Truck Driving school at Johnston Community College in Smithfield. If you have to do the full deal, consider their full course, which is 8 weeks and costs under $1000. I rented a room in Goldsboro for the duration of the class, and it worked out well.
Also, with Schneider or ConWay, you'll be just a number. At Cargo, you are most assuredly not. One of their big advantages is getting to know your fleet leader. You'll meet and interact with them in person whenever you're on the yard. -
I'll give you the same advice I'd give my own brother, If you go to Conway or Schneider you will be doing yourself a dis service. You will make FAR more money and be home FAR more often with CT than either one of those.Right out of school your getting 39 cent per mile. You won't make that anywhere else straight out of school. As our friend Joey said, You can make $50,000 with no problem as long as you are willing to do the job.
48Packard Thanks this. -
I would love to drive for this company but I would need to be home at least every weekend. Is that possible?
