Carlisle PA walmart and local cops ( and drivers)

I dislike Carlisle and Mechanicsburg, PA for other reasons. But if your in Little Rock, AR, there is a WalMart at the Base Line Road exit 130, just east of I430 that LOTS of trucks park at and I have never seen ad issue there. Plus a couple of FF and a buffet in the parking lot.

 

Most Wally Worlds in arkansas are truck friendly, some even have parking spaces for trucks

 

2 of them in Little Rock have the gates.

Malvern, AR has the gates.

Blytheville, AR has the gates.

 

I did say MOST...haha

 

Neither of those cities are Little Rock. But I can guess why they have gates, as the cops are Aholes in Malvern. I would not want to spend the night in Blytheville unless I was in a tank.

 

Blytheville ain't bad. Just ignore the tiny excuse for a truck stop and head east to the Nucor steel plant. More than enough land to park on outside the plant and nobody will bother you. Just go east on 18, through the curves, past 137, to Co Rd 903 and turn south. Take your first left and pick a spot along that road. If you miss 903 take the next road south at the edge of the plant and take the first or second right. Both put you on the road. It's 4 trucks wide, 3/4 mile long, solid surface. If they're all lined up just get turned around and park near the edge of the road facing away from the plant.

 

You're an owner op I take it? Well If you were a company driver, If your a company driver I'd let him write the ticket as it will go to whomever registered the truck. Hey, someone is responsible for your layover... unless you are your own dispatcher. Let them, pay the freaken ticket. I've done that before.

If you find a spot at the Petro in Carlisle, take a stroll about 1/4 mile up N. Middlesex Rd. to see a nice little waterfall. Go another 1/4 mile and there's a little rec area on the river where people put their boats in. You can fish there, or wade, or just relax.

 

I gotta wonder if someday someone's gonna lawyer up and get a discrimination lawsuit going.
If I have to tolerate smelly homeless guys masturbating in a public library (lawsuit) surely something could be done about a company refusing to service you based on your occupation.

Meanwhile I'll just put this out as a warning to all the OTR guys passing though the great intersection of 81/76 (aka Carlsile, PA):

You are in the biggest corridor for the northeast, so parking is pretty hard to come by and the locals don't cotton to trucks much. There are about 5 truck stops inside of about 7 square miles and I think about 4 trucking hubs.

Just because you couldn't get front row at the Pilot doesn't mean there's no truck parking in PA.

And there are many spots around that LOVE drivers (just behave) but they are much,,, much,,, smaller. (as in, 3-4 rigs per site)

Many Rutters gas stations (don't show up as truck stops in GPS programs) will let a few rigs stay overnight.
There are a hand full of independent truck stops on secondary roads. (Berks, Lancaster, Chester counties for a few)
There are other Wal-marts besides Carlisle.
Carlisle cops get testy even if you're only going though town, they try to force you onto the interstate/turnpike.

If you are delivering in PA, call the shipper/receiver and ask them for recommendations, they might let you drop the trailer and even recommend a good restaurant.

Example: I have a semi-regular pickup north of York PA off of I-83. There is a restaurant on a high visibility corner near the highway. It's plastered with no truck signs. One time I walked up from the shipper (it's the closest place for lunch) and asked the owner if he minded me bringing my rig instead of the two mile hike. He said bob-tail is fine and no more than 2 hrs. Now it's one of my favorite hot wing joints. (unfortunately I haven't been able to sample his micro brews as I'm still on duty.)
