Ok. So using your reasoning it's better to go flip burgers, greeter at Walmart, etc. How do you move up from these jobs using the experience you gained. Oh, that's right, you DON'T!!!!!! That is why trucking is the more attractive option to people who have very limited options. So yes, it is a brilliant decision.

 

So you want to be in charge of an 80,000 pound rig. Risking accidents with 4 wheelers. Risking your driving record. Driving in all kinds of weather. Sleeping in a box. Yanking a box. Having dispatch run your 70 out every week.

For $5 an hour. To get experience.

My first job driving paid 36 cpm. Van and flat plus picks and drops. No I didn't have a clean driving record. I was promised, and received, a 4 cpm raise after three months. I left after another three months and was working for 45-50 cpm plus picks and drops and tarping. I'll help anyone who wants to help themselves for advice or options. There are options.

10 cpm is a joke

 

But for people with a checkered past and a criminal record it's still the better option.

Btw, ask the OP how he feels about it. He's already moved up to a better company. He's taking care of his child, which is what he set out to do.
