I have never worked at CC but I feel sure even at .10 cpm you would still easily clear more than $800 per month. Probably at least twice that.

Clear $800 per month? Sure but then what's the point of driving???
$800 before taxes is roughly 3 (THREE) days of driving solo!
I started fresh out of school at 48 CPM +$25/stop (1099).

The point is a place to start, without worrying about owing the Po-Po's (ie: gov't, L/E, etc...) any more than he probably already does. I know you love your 1099 gig and all; I did it years ago for some wonderful people, but the ppwk was a nightmare.
This is a comfy zone for him to start, and I respect that.

It's all good; I've done both. It's just a LOT on a new guy. Heck, I WAS that new guy back in 98. Boy did I screw THAT up...... saved nothing....receipts were faded by sun (thermal paper) .... paid nada into escrow, ..... and MAN... the tax man cometh HARD on me, real hard.

It is worse than slavery, slaves were expensive and we're taken care of.
How is OP going to take care of himself and a son (!) @10 CPM?!
That truck has to make 8000 miles in a week (assuming they won't ripp him off on miles) for OP to gross $400.
    Are you kidding me?

8k miles a week would be $800 a week. 10cpm for all truck miles not just his. Safe to say op is gonna probably make closer to 5 600 a week before Uncle Sam gets ahold of him.. which is horrible

Well, it has nothing to do with the OP. As previously stated, I applaud him for working to better himself and his son.

My problem is with CC. They are exploiting people with a past and making a killing off of it. Sure, their insurance premiums are higher and they may have more risk, but their drivers are still under the same risks and regulations that every other driver faces. No matter the person's past, he deserves to be compensated according to the industry he is in, and the risks and lifestyle associated with that industry.

    That's all I'm saying.
