How many carriers do you think will fold during 2008? Ive gotta feeling there will need to be some mergers or alot of companies will shut down.

    hmmm good question.

I can tell you Swift won't be one of them. How do I know this?

A simple interview with a Senator. He went to Swift. Not OOIDA, not Hoffa, but Swift to get the impact information of the high cost of fuel and it's affects on the trucking business.

Meaning to me, our Senate does not trust the unions or OOIDA to provide them with information.

Hundreds if not thousands, will close because of this.. And you can bet CO like Swift, Schneider, Werner Stevens, JB Hunt will not close for sure..

This is EXACTLY what they want. Less competition. Pay slave wages. Complain about USA workers not being willing to do jobs. Bring in another 5 or 10 million wet backs to take over truck driving jobs as they have most building trade and other sectors. Pretty simple. Pretty disgusting.:biggrin_25510:

I'd like to point out that problems logging isn't a nationality based issue. There are plenty of 'red blooded Americans' who can't figure it out, too.

True, but most hired here in Texas are mexicans, not picking on them just stating a true fact..

Drove a dump for 15 years? No logs required for the majority of jobs.

I know guys who drove OTR for years, that are having to be trained...again. Due to the changes that have taken place since their last OTR job. Naturally, they catch on quicker.

I can vouch for dump drivers not filling out HOS logs. Most do not ever go out of a 100 mile air radius and are not required to log.

Years ago I worked out of town like in Santa Barbara, and 29 Palms both which are out of the radius from the L.A. area. The construction companies either didn't care about logging or had no idea it was required even back in the 70's and 80's.
