Yes that is the one I was considering getting especially because it has its own extended runtime and remote start. For the money it's the greatest value that's out there right now

However it is not as popular has the predator and there is not anywhere physically that I know of that I can see how simple or difficult it is to hook up to extend the exhaust. It may be quite simple I don't know but I don't know of anywhere to physically actually see it and it's not popular enough that there's anywhere online to see anyone that has done that.

Because it is an open frame inverter, if it is on the catwalk like I would put mine, even if it's tarped I think that the elements would get to it much quicker than an enclosed unit. Even purchasing a generator box it is larger because it's an open frame than the comparable closed frame units.

If there was a little more information on it that very possibly could be my first choice.

Last night I watched the video of how to hook up the extended run system on the Predator 3500. I don't think it's anything I would have to buy I think I can just look at what they did there and do that myself.

But there is no system like that for the champion and I have no way of knowing when you take the valve cover off how the PCV valve operates and what you have to do to disable it. Again, it might be absolutely simple to do that but without seeing how someone else did it or having it right in front of me I'm not sure.

So as I write this I'm still kind of torn. Actually as I write this, I feel like I'm leaning back towards the champion now because I think of it like this:

The Predator is very popular but it only has a 90-day warranty so you have to purchase the extended warranty. I don't know what that cost but the cost of the unit I think is around $850.

Then if you want the remote start that kit is $369. Now if I watch that video I may be able to just make it myself but he has it set up that you can control everything from in the cab even the Eco switch. And again it's something I have to make myself I have to look on the internet and piece all the pieces together. And then actually put it together.

So by the time you buy the predator and buy the extended warranty and buy the remote start you've got a little money laid out.

The champion is pretty inexpensive and it already has the remote start and I guess if I just carried a fuel can for a while I mean that thing will run 22 hours at 1/4 power. And for the price of it even if it only last through the warranty. I could just buy another one.

And I guess as I go later on I could just experiment with putting an extended run fuel pump on it and see how it works out.

Sorry about the long post but sometimes it helps to just think out loud.

I'm going to make a decision very shortly but I'm sure that champion is an excellent generator for the money.

You can get a vacume operated fuel pump, if the generator isnt running it doesnt pump. A small vacume line off the intake manifold will do.
Should be all the pump you need.
The spark arrestor comes off, you wont need it, flexible exhaust like they use on bunk heaters will attach to the gen and get you to an up pipe to take the exhaust up. You leave a space between the two it creates a venturi effect that will draw the exhaust up and away. There are RV kits available to do just this, look one up you can copy it easy enough.
I have done A LOT of research on this. A lot.
I dont want to be going back and forth to the fuel pumps all the time, but I also do t want to he sitting at a scale with a bunch of fines. I hope it all works for you. Let us know how you make out.

His post was not a disagreement with what I was saying, it was a backhanded insult cheap shot directed squarely at me If your calling me out, please do the same for him. All I have done is offer up what I have been told. I insulted no one.

These are a few others on here running generators, larger ac units (roof ac) draw a bunch at start up. I've read here that on a smaller generator you need a capacitor soft start system to get them going? Once again, something I've read here.

I think the 8 gallon limit is coming from the Materials of Trade (MOT) exception for Class 3 HM. But that's just the container size, the
maximum that can be carried is 440lbs, so 60+ gallons?

a few things about the predator and the reason I went with it... yes it now $860 so ya a little high BUT it's enclosed so it help keep rain/snow/ice out of it.
It's 1 of the quietest on the market.
You can get a remote start/stop kit for $129 that takes longer to takes the sides off than the installation...
They make a simple remote run kit
The 2 year extended warranty is well worth the $150.... why.... because it a no question asked FREE REPLACEMENT.... so if fir any reason in that 2 years all you do is drain the gas and take it to ANY harbor freight and walk out 15min later with a new one in the box.....! No dealing with some warranty department.... sending off for repairs and waiting...

Rerouting the exhaust is EZ and simple... on the predator just take off the end cover (6 screws) take off the spark arrestor (2 bolts) then get some 1in flex exhaust pipe (O'Reilly $2.95 a foot) take Plummer type (1/2 strap with holes every 1/2 in) cut 2 2in pieces. Slide the exhaust pipe over the end of the muffler then bend the 2 2in straps at a 90°.use the 2 bolts the hold the straps on the muffler and a band clamp around the pipe and the straps... reinstall the end cover and route the exhaust as you wish..
