I'm just curious about something. I started driving in 2005, but since it's not year round, I'm still a newbie. So, here's my question:

How many of you have 4-wheelers pass you going up a hill when there's no way they can see, much less have time to get around or over if another vehicle comes over that hill towards them? I had this happen several times last year. There's been quite a few pass when I know they were taking a huge risk, and I've had to slow down, but this one hill would completely be suicide if someone had been coming any one of those times.

Unfortunately, nowadays it seems no one has even 10-20 seconds to spare. I have had cars pass me on the shoulder, around blind corners, on hills (like you 'tude). I don't get it.

Last time I was on US35 (in WV), I came around a corner to find a car coming at me, luckily my load was well secured and there weren't any trucks behind me, 'cause I had to grab a whole lotta brakes to keep from killing that jerk. And I know I'm not alone.

I keep thinking that sooner or later, when one of these jerks gets killed, maybe Joe Blow Average motorist will learn a lesson. And I have realized that that's got as much chance of happening as me becoming the next President of the US (LOL).

All you can do is be safe and legal (above all else, be legal), and hope nothing happens to you. And of course, look out for the idiots out there.

You have a good point about things changing. The part that gets me is somehow it seems everyone is out to blame the truckers rather than the cars that are in such a hurry to endanger us.

I drove US35 last week...first time...man that was an experience with everything heading in and out of Central Ohio on a two lane road surrounded by cow pastures, the power plant, and the river. It was a little hairy there and it was a nice clear day. Definitely a bad place to be in fog, rain or snow.

I was in an accident in my van last year...I got hit right in the driver side at the wheel. I wasn't at fault, and I was really all messed up...found my glasses in the middle of the intersection after my head had bashed through the drivers side mirror. Even at that with the other guy being at fault I couldn't help but feel a little bad for him and his passengers. I'd hate to be in an accident, especially in a situation where the other guy is cutting across the double yellow line going up a hill.

I know I've got an ugly butt, but could they at least wait for a safe place to go by (I'll have to look at there's for the next 30 miles).

Yeah, no kidding! It seems everyone forgets that their dangerous behavior is endangering them as well, untill something happens and they (or someone they love) is injured. And then it's too late...
And it's just plain convienient (sp) to blame us; we are the professional drivers, this is what we do, so it MUST be our fault, no matter what happened. All you can do is drive carefully; remember, by driving so, you are protecting yourself, your career, and the other motorists- sometimes from themselves.

And ILM, glad you enjoyed the ride on 35, it can be enjoyable, as long as the traffic in front of you is moving along nicely. When you get stuck behind a scared 4-wheeler (or worse, a scared truck driver) then that ride can take forever. It's like driving US24, from Toledo,OH to Ft Wayne,IN. If you are going from Detroit-Indy, the shortest way involves running it. But, it is two lane in some stretches, and at the OH border, it winds thru a town with a 25 mph speed limit. So, if you are unlucky enough (again) to get stuck behind someone slow, the ride can take forever. Oh, the road does open up to four lanes, but that's usually where the OSP hangs out busting speeders (of course).

It doesnt matter if I am going up hill, down hill, around a corner, straight road, slow, or fast, I have found that almost every single 4 wheeler and a few big trucks, will risk their life, and the lives of others just to be in front of me(not as a person, but as a big truck) Yet the part I cant understand is, some days, the same car, will pull the same stunt, more then ONCE! god forbid they dont stop and get that McDonalds or that crappochino, spelled that way on purpose lol, but of course, once they do, there goes that *#&%)#^&$^ truck just bringing them more products to devour without any concern as to how they get to them

It doesn't matter who you are or where you are. This is a busy world and cars are being made faster and faster. Not to mention the fact that when Joe Average Motorist sees a truck on the road...they AUTOMATICALLY feel the need to pass...even if you're doing five over. It's less of a matter of you moving slow and more of a psychological frenzy. They see a truck: the feel the need to be going faster than the truck.

I have the blind passing all the time, and even do as a 4-wheeler. Sometimes I have had to pull over to the shoulder at the crest of a hill to avoid an accident with oncoming traffic because of someone overtaking like that.

Today, I was in the left hand lane of a 4 lane boulevard as I was going to be turning left. I was just about at the posted speed, when an SUV hesitates, hesitates, and finally crosses the road in front of me and pulls in front of me and SLOWS down to below the speed limit, and sits there. I couldnt believe it, yet believe it all too well cos it happens every day. He couldnt pull across to the lane next to me, cos in his opinion, a loaded truck should be in the slow lane... well, not if we are turning left we shouldnt. Boy was I hot. Sorry for the rant.
Yes, 4 wheelers constantly endanger themselves and put us at risk too to save a few seconds (in their opinion).

Even though I'm not technically a driver (yet) I still have always had a high level of contientiousness around trucks. For as long as I can remember my daddy's been driving trucks and I'd always be along with him for the ride. Eventually I got to know and respect what comes along with the job...and there is a certain level of road ettiquite that people just don't have anymore.
