The speed limit in any state is what it is. Like RM said, there is no 5mph cushion, in any state.:biggrin_25512:
Unless your already 5 under the limit. And if thats the case, get your butt back in the right hand lane Swifty, where you belong.:biggrin_25520:

    >>>Indiana issued a ticket to a friend of mine for 58 in a 55.

I've 'heard' of that but there always seems to be more to the story or "almost" everyone here would have that violation...

The end result is that he paid the fine.

I do not give out false information in order to make a story.

It happened in Northern Indiana on a two lane road.

As a result, I no longer run 59 on the two lanes. I am now running about 56.

Touchy now aren't we?...I didn't say you gave anything related to false info out...I just find it strange with soooooooooooo many running 59 or better that more of us don't know people getting that ticket...From what I hear from friends, it's because they were rude or disrespectful to the cop as 99% of cops won't even consider writing a 3 over ticket...

I'll have to admit--there was a time I fractured a rule every now and again--and sadly I must admit I have received a citation or two over the years--(now I don't know about cushions--but I do know it is up to the officer who he/she chooses to pull over--and usually they have a pretty good reason for it)even got some for 2-3 miles over--BUT--any time I was ticketed like that--it was a break--I was cool --he/she was cool--so they cut it down--so I didn't get beat up as hard--in more ways than one. So I'm guessing (as usual) there is more to this story!

Really, the 'cushion' depends on the cop. My ex girlfriends dad is a cop in Akron, Ohio. He gives a 15mph leeway, depending. Obviously school zones are a no no. (I asked him about it once just out of curiosity since I have a heavy foot) and thats what he told me. The signs on roads that post fines usually start at 10 over, most drivers feel that 5 over is fine, and some officers will ticket you for doing 1 mile over as they do in Avon Lake, Ohio on certain days of the year.

The speed limit is what is posted. That is the LIMIT. I for one am for driving fast, thats just how I am. I hate driving slow and I hate being behind people, even if they are driving the right speed. The cushion you speak of has more to do with the officer than your rights or whatever you wanna call it.

The posted limit is the limit! No lee way, with that being said from my limited experince most LEOs will give some slack. It depends on the cop I got a 5 over years ago in my 4 wheeler and then I've had a NYS trooper flash his lights at me as a warning. I was rolling down a hill singing with the radio:biggrin_25519: and forgot my jake was off and let it creep up to 69-71 mph in a 55. I was glad he didn't stop me , but a couple weeks later they started cracking down cause of a big truck accident.

Big bottle rockets! They are cheap, sold everywhere, extremely effective, and very easy to use. Just roll down window, aim at rear window and light. Nothing like a 300 decibal screaming, flaming rocket zooming past them and exploding to get someones attention. Extremely effective at night, although I prefer large single shot roman candles at night. For two bucks you can momentarily engulf someones car or pickup in a ball of pretty fire.
