Best of luck on your training. Keep us posted on your progress and when you get out on the road!

Thinks Bear. You and Baritones threads have been a great insight on helping me decide on what company to start my career with. Im really nervous on training as far as the backing up, but im sure everyone has there beginner jitters, lol.
-
It comes in time - I am learning more each day I am out here. Once you spend a little time at a t/s and watch others - you'll learn what "not to do"! LOL -
Don't sweat it man. We all have to start somewhere when changing careers. This is no different. You'll learn a skill set from your instructor. It's not as easy as pie, but it's really not that difficult either. Keep an open mind, watch and listen. You'll get it.

Hey guys, got all my paper work today about the school and payment stuff. Looking forward to getting rid of these butterflys and just gettin in the truck and learning. I do have a couple questions for ya. Should I drive down there (I live in NC about 10 min from there eden terminal) or could i possibly hitch a ride with one of there drivers heading out from Eden. Might save me a little gas money, haha. Just hope I dont let go from school early and become stranded
. Also wondered where you purchase the Randy McNally road maps and which version is the best because I believe they offer several. Thanks guys, I appreciate all the help yall have been

Might be good to drive, that way you won't be stuck in the motel all weekend w/o a way to get around. We can probably get you a ride as well. it's really up to you.
Any truck stop will have the atlas....Pilot usually has the best price in my opinion. You can go with the paper one which will last about 6 months to a year before it starts falling apart or get a laminated one that lasts for many years. ( I still use one in class from 2003 and even have a back up from 1993) You can also use a dry erase marker on them to mark your routes.
Usually they are about $10.00 for paper and $30.00 to $40.00 for laminated sometimes even cheaper.....this is at the pilot t/s.
Make sure it's a Rand McNally MOTOR CARRIERS ATLAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't go to wally world they don't have these....trk stp is your best bet. There are two trk stops right across the interstate from our terminal if you want to wait to purchase it when you come to class. -
Very doubtful they would let you hitch a ride since you're not technically an employee yet, but it don't hurt to ask. The atlas you can get at any of the major truck stops. They tend to keep the best supply. The motor carriers version is the one you want. The Deluxe is laminated and binded and is the one most get.
Best of luck to you in your training. -
Hey guys, I was looking over the paperwork today and something caught my eye. Is says to have your CDL permit with NO Restrictions! Now being that I wear contacts im sure my CDL is goin to list this as a restriction and put 1. Corrective Lenses on it. Is this a problem, and if not, what restrictions are they actually talking about? Thanks guys
-
your contact lens restriction wont be a problem they are talking about actual driving restrictions
