With the card, they can bill you for any discrepancies (Miles run, interior or body damage etc.) and usually get their money.
Cash, you are gone... An even if you contest any additional billing, the card company can provide LE all their background on you to corral your AZ.
Also, never stroll into a restaurant or similar business and order. As you wait, casually flash you card and comment:
Found this old card outside there, "Hope it is good". Some detention of the goods and verification of it actually working. Kills the joke...

 

Cards can be tracked, cash can't. That's why we're moving towards a cashless system. To answer your question, I run on cards but always have a cash backup.

There are security reasons and a general distaste for buisness practices that explain why I personally dont like the tracking.

It is true that in a totalitarian state the govt has more tools via using digital stuff, but we just arent there.

If the poo hits an air impeller, and the govt and banking fails, cash wont help, since the cash is fiat anyway.


Now if you want to evade taxes, eh, i can see why you want to keep everything on a cash basis. But for that, it would be more important to keep your INCOME as cash, not expenditures.

 

Why is it important to you to have transactions tracked? If the poo hits the fan or "air impeller" there is more to worry about than a cash fiat, and most certainly a piece of plastic in your pocket isn't going to get any of us anywhere. Those with cash will sustain a little longer than those without. Internet goes down and businesses cannot SWIPE your card, move to the back of the line.

Heres the actual scenario
If our banking and internet goes down due to a governmental collapse, NOTHING will function. There wont be a prayer of a chance that you get to the fuel island because those wont even work at all even if they have fuel.

People wont be at work to maintain this nice orderly line you think will happen. If you hadnt seen the writing on the wall months in advance, it wont matter.

Cash will do precisely nothing but get you knifed or shot by other people that didnt get the memo

 

My first 3 years OTR I would carry no more than $40 cash per week. That was mostly to pay for CAT scales during the week before the CAT Scale app. My last 3 years I only carried a $100 per month or two in five dollar bills to tip shower cleaners.

 

The reason they won’t rent using cash is so other charges and fees can be added.
Same with airlines.

We are headed in a nasty direction. Soon cash transactions will be gone. Government will soon be giving away free currency (universalbasic income) but you have to setup a account to get it....its already started it's called a FedNow account. How much you get will depend on what your profile says....support Trump or the truckers in canada? no CBDC for you. Your truck only gets 5 mpg? No more fuel for you. You had a heart attack? Card doesn't work at Krispy Kreme. Vehicle too old? Card wont work at the pumps. Want to leave the country? Can't because the government owns all your currency and you are a pauper.
