Cash could get you out of many a jam, simply because credit was such a hassle. That's not the case today. Try and pay for a motel with cash. Many won't do it, or several hundred up front. If you trash the place, they have nobody to charge. We've become a society on credit, and it makes a handy way of recouping their losses. Credit card fraud is at an all time high, I booked a rental car on line, and the"fraud center" was quick to call. It's easier to charge folks they know don't check their bill, and just roll with it. At those % rates, they are STILL making money. Same thing at the pump. I have a trip coming up, and shudder thinking about going in and prepaying cash, right behind granny, paying for gas with quarters from her laundry fund, blissfully unaware as the line grows. Utilities too. Still paying with checks and dealing with the post office? Oh, it's so easy to just push a button, until a quick check of the statement often shows, "Hey,,I never went there". Oh, they'll cheerfully remove it, but much goes unnoticed. Cash will be around for a while yet, it's the stupid change we could do without. It takes 1.5 cents to make a penny. Nice, eh? With ATMs coast to coast, its foolish to carry a lot of money today,,,until the ATM system goes down,,,I suppose there was some merit to grannies mattress full of cash.

I still pay everything by check including groceries at store. Pay cash for everything and still have land line at home. With answering machine. Got rid of smart phones and now have a flip phones. Peaceful without them. This is the only site I post on. So no need for overly complicated phone. do like my Mac book though.

These remarks are based on my experience years ago. With as many news articles on political and investment frauds running into millions now, I would think a few hundred dollar bills would be an excellent intro in to profitable accomplishments in the present economy.
