is it really that hard to survive at all the union companies first year allied, jackcooper , cassens
if its like that probably better off going to united road hasen adkins or waggoners just to keep the work coming -
Why would it be different?
you hear people say "they'll fire you over nothing" or "they'll find a reason to get rid of you" but it's just like most trucker talk its just BS. They've invested time and money in you so why would they kick people out.
Other than me lowest seniority in my terminal is 2 yrs. Everyone else is 10 to 37.Speedloader and SLANT6 Thank this. -
High cost labor usually equals high end investment in personal = quality.

I spent ten years at Cassens as an Operations Supervisor, then I made a stupid mistake which cost me my job. Even after that, I have nothing but great things to say about the company.
As has been mentioned here, carhauling is not for everyone. You work your tail off. In the winter, you freeze in the snow and the ice. In the summer, you broil as you load and unload on hot asphalt. You're held responsible for every last windshield wiper that you move...but you're very well-compensated for it as well.
Someone stated that the company constantly looks for reasons to fire people. That is categorically untrue. Article 40 of the contract lists the disciplinary steps (reprimands, time off, and/or discharge) for every offense. Every driver has a contract, so it's not as if these items are sprung on anyone. Come to work, don't use the truck as your personal taxi, refrain from running into things and damaging units, and you won't have anything to worry about.
Yes, junior carhaulers have to work harder than senior guys to make the same money. That's the way it works in ANY unionized field.
The bosses are (generally) pretty good people. Like any company anywhere, some are better than others. The TM in Detroit is a pretty solid guy, and the one in Lordstown, OH is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet.
All-in-all, I can honestly say Cassens was the best company for which I ever worked.skinnytrucker, WhyDriveTruck, Pullin2 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Have an interview on monday the 9th of june with these guys. I guess they are offering paid benefits through teamsters union still. And $1.20 a mile loaded. $0.00 while Empty. Hotels every night im not home. Guaranteed home time on weekends due to the contract with the union.. drivers have to be home for their 34 hour reset. Sounds good. Anyone still working there now?
-
Yes. What terminal?
You will be home most weekends but there's nothing in the contract that guarantees it. If you do a reset on the road your paid 8 hrs for each day your out. -
Lafayette IN
And #### truckers with their stories! thats what he told me lol.
Is the $1.20 a mile a truth? And is it force dispatch?WhyDriveTruck Thanks this. -
Just went up to 1.22. No it's not forced dispatch.
Lafayette is not a bad terminal. You will get home most if not all your weekends. I do but I've seen people get stuck out. I wasn't tying to deter you just letting you know there's nothing in the contract that guarantees it.WhyDriveTruck Thanks this.
