I'm doing a harmonic balancer on a 3406b Cat motor and I have the six bolts out of the front and the fan removed and the regular puller is way too small. It doesn't look like there is any kind of center bolt in this one and it's recessed so far that even if it had one it couldn't possibly hold the balancer like a normal crank bolt. Anyone know what kind of puller to get for this? The total diameter is just over 13.5" and with the bolt holes spaced so far apart I can't imagine what kind they expect one to use.

No puller needed. Just prob rusted on the crank a bit.
Pry it gently with a bar , should pop right off.
Pulley and balancer will come off together. Once on the ground you can seperate them

OK - I guess it just falls off when you beat on it? Swaan is exactly correct - thank you. I wasn't giving it enough force apparently. Of course now it's completely stuck to the pulleys. Ugh - does anything come off these old motors easily? Any tips for splitting the balancer and pulleys? I thought maybe trying to pry between them, but that doesn't seem to help. I'm soaking them with PB Blaster right now to see if that gets me anywhere.

Yup. They will be corroded together. The hub of the pulley protrudes thru center of balancer. If you run stuck and your balancer is junk anyway. Get out the torch and cut balancer of the center of pulley. Take extra care not to damage pulley as you need that again.

Forgot to add. When you get pulley off , clean up the stub of hub with a wire wheel or flapper wheel. So it centers nice on new balancer. Dab of never sieze never hurt either.
