Hello and thanks in advance for any help anyone has or ideas. I have not got a chance to get this truck hooked up to CAT ET yet and have not got to experience and see the problem first hand until my driver gets back into the yard. The motor is a Cat 3406E set at factory 550HP in a 1997 Kenworth. Problem is that at between 1600 - 1700 RPM and religiously each time that the check engine and shut down engine light will light momentarily with no other ill effects: Run the truck below ~1600 RPM's and nothing or push through and throttle past ~1700 RPM's and the lights go out and otherwise seem to be no problems. Thanks, J.D.

Just had same issue with 2000 3406 e it was the boost censor 140 for new one shut truck off turn key back on and hold cruise down and read engine light flashes should be code 25
-
Turn cruise main switch off then push the set/accel switch up until your check engine light flashes and count the flashes. The long pause starts the second number as in: two flashes, pause, five flashes for fault number 25
-
55 means no faults
-
Mine does that,,no codes, but the water temp on my KR scangage is all over the place when the lights come on,,my water temp meter shows no change
-
J.D., you can take a "snapshot" with the diagnostic mode when the engine light comes on. The snapshot will record parameters for a period of 13 seconds that surrounds an event, 9 seconds before the trigger and 4 seconds after.
BoxCarKidd and Cetane+ Thank this. -
On a side note, my truck never sees those rpm unless I'm letting in go on a big downhill.

Thank you guys for the suggestions the truck should get into our shop late this evening so I will check and report in tomorrow. As far as the RPM's that high, it is a heavy haul truck and the reason he noticed it was in the mountains out West keeping RPM's up to keep EGT's down.
