I use a Cat 1r 749 on the spin on base it popped the base gasket out while idling approx 60psi, this is with a new bypass check valve. I have never had this happen I install the filter with same "torque" as I always have using a band wrench. Is there a specific torque value for this filter? It be a real pisser if this happened while driving.

Hand-tight served me well for over 20 years....no need for a filter wrench unless it's removing it....are you sure the seal from the old filter didn't stick to the sealing surface?

    Oxbow and gafred99 Thank this.

Hand tight should be enough. Did it have a different brand filter on it with an O-ring in the middle and it's still there? Once upon a time I worked at a company shop that bought filters by the case. We received a whole case of filters with the wrong threaded ends in them, no where close. I would suspect something like that. Center of the filter bottoming or improper threads?

Originally it had no filter there, then I replaced the short cap with CAT branded filters and made sure the seal always came off when switching it.
