Well have the guy have cat fax or email a copy of the work performed. If he won’t take 5 minutes and do that, I wouldn’t say the seller is a dishonest seller and who knows what cat did or if cat did the work at all

Are you sure it is 6nz and not a 9nz? If it is a C-16 bottom assembly the ONLY difference is the crank, and cylinder packs. This would be a good thing! If it is and it has a 6nz turbo on it the turbo may be a little under size for it.

I agree with superhauler. I would see what the engine rating and flash file are in the ECM. Pretty easy for someone to put a 7CZ flash in it upgrade your turbo and it is a true C-16.

    Hi guys,
I received a report from CAT today after paying to a roadworthy to be completed on it and the below is storey.
The remanned engine from cat a has C16 components and pistons. this was completed at 900klm (1.44m miles) the engine was supplied with a no serial number stamped but was tagged as a 6NZ.
The engine was then fitted with the standard 6nz blots on's
the engine then started pushing water out of front. Cat couldn't identify why it was happening therefore a In-Chassis rebuild was completed at 1.76 klm ( 2.88m miles). with no pistons and liners.
It currently runs the C15 turbo and flash file.
the engine has now done 35000 klm (56000 miles) since the rebuild and is producing a oil leak at a gasket on the water pump housing. its only very slight. Cat said its of no concern at present. but I would love to know your thoughts and if its something to worry about?

I also would like to changed the turbo on it to a C16 turbo and updated the flash file from 6nz to the c16 file.
do you think this would hurt the engine? if not what can I increase the Hp to and would suggest using a CAT turbo or a no wastegate aftermarket turbo?

this is my first truck and I might be being over cautious, but I don't want buy a dud and have to have any major problems start of the bat.

    thanks

    SAR and Oxbow Thank this.

A c-16 turbo and ecm file won't hurt it one bit. But there are better options for turbo than stock.

For sure on turbo. BW S410SX line is good. 14869880000 thru 14969880003 depending on flash, cam, injectors, etc. Stock C-16 would be 175963.

    SAR Thanks this.
