Any of them will pull 20k like it was nothing.
20k is like a feather, almost like pulling an mt.

It's when you get over 40k that really matters.

Running across MO today with 16K in the box, I was STILL grabbing a gear on I44 from Springfield to St Louis.

It's got a lot to do with how the truck is set-up too.

This one is set-up like crap with 3.42 rears, 10 spd OD and DD15 set to 455hp w/1500 ft/lb torque.

Well I have never had a problem getting parts for a Detroit 60 but that was back in 1998-1999. With that being said in 2000 I got into a 550 CAT. Loved it! To this day it is my favorite. Mileage wasn't as good but my truck was governed at 80 mph. I have found that with mileage it just depends on how you drive it and how fast you go. Cummins seem to get all the high mileage glory.

Have driven and worked on all, like most of them, with that said cat will cost you a fortune to maintain, detroits aren't bad, personally I'll take a cummins they are a little lighter, they are built lighter, don't feel they hold up as long as a cat but cost significantly less than a cat and if you ever really load one(lowboy skagit 50 down slater creek in the pnw 24% @ 185,000lbs.) you will LOVE cummins jake, specifically isx 15. we pack heavy around here and we also drive on some nasty roads and you can count on a cummins in almost any truck in the woods around here.

Any detroit, cummins or mercedes in an 04 through most 07 trucks will be egr without dpf. Personally I would stay away from the 08-2010 or so range trucks due to the dpf system.

I have owned a detroit in an 04 truck, 12.7 with egr. Fan ran most of the time due to high engine temps.
I had an 07 truck with 14 liter detroit also. It was better than the 04 with 12.7 but fuel mileage was poor.

The egr detroits do not do as well on fuel economy as the older ones. Also they are more expensive on upkeep.

I currently have an 07 with the C15 Accert. I prefer it by far above the egr detroit. I have also owned the C13 cat as well. Do not recommend it. Mine drank oil like it was going out of style.

I have not owned the cummins with the egr but have heard that the egr system on cummins can be bypassed.

If I were buying an 06 or an 07 Cat C15 would be my first choice. Cummins 2nd choice and detroit a distant third as last resort. Mercedes I have driven but no way I would buy one. Completely gutless. A fellow I know has one in a truck he bought new. Don't know the exact year model but I think it is somewhere between an 04 and an 06. He has the truck parked in his yard and is running an older truck instead.
