Today a Cummins 5.9 went across our dock. Looking at it, i think this might be a better sized engine for me to start off with as far as getting an engine to run on a stand and eventually install in a vehicle.

So, what is the CAT equivalent to a Cummins 5.9?

    1) Must be 100% mechanical and none of this HEUI Bull@#$t

    2) Must be able to buy new from CAT.

Yes, i think it's probably better for me to start off learning on a smaller engine, then move up to a 3406.

i would first want to install an engine in a pickup first anyways.

The 3116 or 3126 might be somewhere close. Not sure if you could get one new anymore though...

I would just go build that 3406. Big or small they're all the same junk. The basics never change.

Wrong type of grille for a ‘73 F250 though.

    That’s for a ‘78-‘79.

    Oxbow Thanks this.
