    Does anyone know if any Cat filters will work on a 12.7 Detroit? Or someplace on the 'net that will let me cross reference them myself? The #'s I'm using now are- Oil- NAPA #1971, Baldwin # B495;
    Fuel- NAPA # 3120 & 3405, Baldwin # BF1212 & BF5810.

    I've got a friend that can get me a deal on some leftover Cat filters, but I don't if any will work. Thanks....

    Never seen any Cat filters for apps other than Cat. google Fleetguard filters. you can cross part# but not applications. see if your current # crosses to same that the Cat# crosses to

    You can also use wix.com the will give you spec on the filters.
    common cat filers are 1R1808, 1R1807 oil / 1R0749, 1R0750, 1R0751 secondary fuel / 175-2949 primary fule witch is a fs1000 fleat gaurd replacement and cat coolant filter is the same as a 4017 wix/ napa filter I know the coolant filter is the same and if you have a screw on filter in the frame the 175-2949 filter should be fit

    Heres where you will get yourself in trouble. example: 175-2949 and FS1000 fit the same thread size but are not same spec 175-2949 is 10 mic 160 gph for 90 gph head. FS1000 is 10 mic 320 gph for 120 gph head . you could use FS 1000 in place of 175-2949 but not other way around unless a restricted fuel supply is ok with you . my point is just because it fits dosent mean its right.

    DD 60s should always have a 7 mic fuel filter in secondary position or in a single filter set up ( Davco)

    Be very careful with your cross reference. if you find a filter that you believe will work then check the specs with mfg to be certain its correct for your app.

    Thanks for the help everyone, with the cross-reference info I could find, it doesn't appear that any will work. I've read Cat's brochures before touting how superior their filters are, thought maybe they made filters for other brands too.

    I use cat oil and sec fuel. fleetguard primary fuel. IMO, fleetguard is as good as you can get( im told fleetguard makes Cat filters but never verified) Fleetguard is owned by Cummins filtration . pretty much the world leader in filters. fleetguard makes these brands, Detroit diesel,Donaldson
    Cat(maybe)Baldwin( im told these are Fleetguard seconds) hard to buy a filter not made by Fleetguard unless its Wix or Napa(also Wix) or Fram(junk)

    Hope someone finds this info useful

    RW. Thanks this.

    Just my own personal preference, when i had a cummins i used cummins (fleetgard) filters. Currently have a cat and use cat filters.
    Im sure it doesnt make a rats butt difference, just my choice.

    I agree with you, it cant hurt to use the manufactures filters. Not sure about the other makes but if a cat engine has a failure out of warranty and the owner wants some support from cat for the failure the first thing the Cat rep asks is "does the engine have cat filters on it?" if it doesnt they are a lot less likely to help out with the cost of the repair.

    i would run what the manufactures says as far as fuel filters, a cat run cat fuel filters, a new style detroit n3 injectors 2004 newer make sure u run the correct fuel filter. if the wrong fuel filter is used they will deny your injector warrenty. n3 injectors have to have a certain micron rating, i can't remember what it is.. but as far as oil filters, fleetguards are probally the best out thier, or cat for a cat engine. a fleetguard will be just fine for any engine
