Just a point.... There is a big difference between the terms "Rebuilt" and "Remanufactured (Reman)" even from the factory.
Rebuilt: only the totally worn out stuff is replaced. If your cam, crank, liners, heads, etc are "within spec" (even tho they're barely in) they will be left in. Not uncommon to have 1 piston/liner combo replaced and the rest as is, 1 or 2 injectors, valves, etc. This is usually what you'll get when someone's claiming "Engine just rebuilt".
Reman: this is what you may hear of as "from the block out". Everything gets checked and replaced. Typically done only by the engine (or whatever component) manufacturer only. Never trust a dealer, owner or outside engine rebuilder on a claim of Reman unless he can show you an itemized build sheet to prove it. Learned this the hard way.
Cat motor to cummins can it be done?

So you would rather get a motor out of a recked truck that might get you 100 miles down the road and blow verse doing a inframe

I'm sure you could easily get that Pete to get 4mpg's, though. She runs out real nice.:smt023 I've driven it and it's FUN! I'm also sure if it was mine, it would NEVER get 6. -
###### thats a good looking KW! Im wondering does it run at all? I guess I could call him.. If he was anywhere near me I would probably make the guy a deal... I seen this post a couple days ago and cant get this thing off my mind.. We all know it aint nothing but a money pit. What a beautiful truck though.... -
I could get a rebuilt 3406C for about 10500 with a core. About 2000 for a rebuild kit. If the block was still good and this truck was around my area I would grab her and take it to my engine tune up/overhaul class next semester. Then I would have to worry about the drive line nickle and diming me to death. I know I sound crazy and all, but I have done nothing but save my money the last 8 years I have been in the military. It would be such a good feeling to own that truck.
