- I have a Pete with a 3406. The inspection tag has been missing since purchase 7 yrs ago. Have always been told it was B model. It’s a reman motor. Cat narrowed it down to a 4MG engine. I just pulled the cam because of a bad lobe. Part number on cam is 100 7409. After googling it says this is a C model cam and uses 1086634 pumping units. Had a mechanic rebuild pump few weeks ago and he argued with Cat that they put (back in April) wrong units in pump which were 1086634. He put 1086630 back in it. Which pumping units are to be used with this cam?

Are you talking about the cam in the injection pump or the one in the engine.

Ok, then what does engine cam have to do with pumping units ??? All it does is open and close valves.
Dino soar, pushbroom and spsauerland Thank this. -
B & C are the same motor just caterpillar put in a Mickey Mouse electronic pump piece of junk it was called the Bridge motor!
I’ve had a few I just take the electronic pump off and put the manual pump back on the motor! -

There’s a difference between a supply pump and a injection pump 855 Cummings had a supply pump cam opened and closed the Injectors , 3406 has an injection pump that runs directly to the nozzles

I still don't understand the guys post.
Engine cam has nothing to do with pumping units.
Not clear at all on what he is talking about.Dino soar, spsauerland and AModelCat Thank this. -
If its a reman engine there most definitely will be a S/N stamped somewhere on that block. A full S/N should allow the build sheet to be looked up and see what it left the factory with.
Even a part number or arrangment number off the pump could clarify a lot.Deere hunter, x1Heavy, SAR and 3 others Thank this. -
