eventually, more anti-theft shields will become available, up to a near fully enclosed under belly of the vehicle.
with special anti-theft fasteners, for shops to have for repairs.
it'll be too time consuming for a thief to stay there, removing all the fasteners.Flat Earth Trucker Thanks this. -
Most people can't afford something like that. It was installed by a custom car shop.
If you looked under the car, all you will see is a stainless steel exhaust pipe and probably think it's a straight pipe with no muffler or catalytic converter.buddyd157 and TheLoadOut Thank this. -
I had a discussion with a friend who owns a local scrap yard today. After this conversation I would say the biggest reason any of this is going so strong is because of the lack of interest from law enforcement to go after the thieves. I can understand why they don’t want to with the current political climate but it’s still their job. Moral of the story is a couple guys brought in several dozen cats. Obviously that’s going to bring some suspicion so the guy called several local police departments before the guys left and was told if they come back with more let us know. A couple days later they did so he called and they pretty much told him they didn’t care but they would help him get the cats back to their rightful owners…he was like wtf and ended up running the guys off instead…isn’t that just amazing.

Just how many CATs are really needing to be replaced because of them being stopped up or legitimately in need of replacement?
A guy bringing in 1 to a scrap dealer because it needed replacing i can see. Have him produce a receipt for the replacement before buying it.
As for a legitimate shop, they would be known by the scrap dealer, so might want to sell 2-3 maybe.
2 guys showing up at a scrap dealer with 20 should ring alarm bells, and a call to the cops.God prefers Diesels and AModelCat Thank this. -
I personally have not had to replace a cat on anything I own, nor has anyone I know either. Replaced a couple DPFs but the fact that they were oil saturated pretty much explains exactly why they were going to the scrapyard.JoeyJunk and God prefers Diesels Thank this.
