Take off gear up full power. Cruising let off throttle approaching stop light, engine/truck rolls to a stop. 8 out of 10 time while at light stopped or a rolling stop engine will stumbles/popping from EXHAUST not intake, and preignition can be heard 1/2 of the time when this problems happens. Gentle on the throttle, gear up to 8th truck behaves normal. Starts all Ofer again approaching a stop with engine brake or not. Once stop and if left idle it will smooth out after about 5-10 minutes it idle.

I would start by pulling the valve cover and checking overhead clearances for excessive play. From there measure valve lift on all cylinders. You likely have a wiped cam lobe or follower, or atleast one that's on it's way out.

Thank U much for responding. I ran the valves and verified the injectors height and adjusted. Intakes 15 and exhaust 25 -all ok. Checked all injectors wiring.

Unfortunately I don’t. I am taking it to a specialist this morning. Hoping he can tell me it’s a fuel injector. I would hate if it’s a cam shaft. I just did an inframe rebuild a year ago. When I get a diagnose I’ll upfate the forum for sure. Thank you all for the assistance

The fact that the pop goes completely away @ idle makes it sound more like an injector.

    Ok,
Just left the shop. Technician said misfire in cylinder #3. Suggested either a defective injector or cam follower. I have a spare injector home and I am 25 minutes away from the shop. I’ll swap out the injector and at the same time while the rocker arm and push rods are off I’ll reach down and see if I can verify the followers ok for that cylinder.
Thanks again for all the help!
I’ll update the result in about two hour. I’ve got to get the truck back on the road. Inframe rebuild with new packs, Gearbox rebuild and just had the bed relined and painted.

    spsauerland Thanks this.

    Ok,
After leaving the shop with a diagnose of cylinder number 3 misfiring. I took the truck home, remove cylinder 3 and cylinder 4 injectors, put injector from cylinder 4 into cylinder 3, install spare injector in cylinder 4 and reassembled. Road test and thus far no misfiring. Cylinder 3 injector in a ziplock bag.
Cross fingers toes this is it. Three weeks downtime is too much.

Thank you all again for the inputs.

    spsauerland Thanks this.
