    The one thing I can say, is I used to have a dog in my truck. After I got rid of that R model, I enjoy having a cat with me in the truck.

    Yup... Dave’s the expert. :laughing-guffaw::hal

    I don’t know nuthin’ bout cats. Got a co driver who thinks she’s one. She don’t like to drive. Opts for a nap instead. Loves to lay on the dashboard. Wants me to park with a view. Fuel islands is fine with her. She likes to watch all the commotion.
    The best breed to get is: Rescue.

    Can't add anymore here. Dave and the others have covered it. Best thing I ever did, started traveling with a stray I found in Kansas, now named Sunflower.
    5 years in, she is my hero.

    We had one cat in the truck for almost a year. Not a real problem usually. It had a covered litter box cleaned daily, plenty of water taken from a cage bottle with a beaded pipe to lick water from without spilling all over. Not to mention it likes that coffee now and then. If we forgot to cap it. Food takes care of itself.

    It would spread itself all over that century dash top in the winter sun hogging all of the defrost and sun itself for hours. It has a number of specific spots including a very special spot under the right hand clean box that it gets to under the bunk and very defensible with claw and fang. Final castle or something if it's having a bad day. It did discover we can get to it from the side door but it was still a good spot.

    Once in a while it will be up top of my drivers chair out comes the claws and they auto lock the cat in place for a ride. It did know one word among several. either "Out." or "Off." spoken with a period in command. Just be careful with that out. It will sulk into the center of the bunk where wife is trying to sleep.

    Nights are not as fun with that thing. It's in hunting mode. gets into EVERYTHING. Finally we picked a little fur mouse from the petstore, tie a string and allow it to hunt that somewhere in the sleeper when it's really dark. After it made the kill after making a short chase we water and feed it. That way it's content as cats would be after a kill and a meal.

    The one thing we discovered with truck cats is that there is in that one case something wrong with it after it has seen the whole USA sitting at home staring at a couple of trees and wildlife. Boring. So.. there is a problem. It's a truck cat. I don't know if the shelter adopted it out or put it to sleep.

    We could do cats or dogs or even horses. But cats were the best fit for us because other than hairballs it's usually self maintenance. My last one though that was one of our best. There is nothing that will replace that one. For example the meter girl reading our meters on one corner of the house, she has a cat with giant radar ears tracking her to and from that meter to the vehicle in the front yard. So once a month when cat becomes NORAD against strangers with those ears I know it's the meter maid.

    Electric meters now. Automatically sends it's data remotely to the electric company. No meter readers anymore.

    This lil fur ball showed up at my house back in Feb. When we realized he wasn't leaving we started feeding him. Now he's definitely not going to leave. He is currently an outdoor cat because my dog refuses to accept him. He basically stays on my front porch, back porch, roof, & in my trucks undercarriage when its parked in my side yard..

    Anyway I've been traveling with my American bulldog for the last 6yrs & he loves the road but is getting to old. (14yrs roughly)

    Thinking of taking the cat trucking, but have no real room for a litterbox. My FLD is 40" bunk maybe?, no floor space to speak of. If I can get him leash trained will that be enough? Will he alert me when he has to go out like a dog would?

    Thanks for any response. I've never had a cat & don't know much about them..

    I got a covered litter box. Put it on passenger floor board. Put stuff on top.
    Use walnut litter. One large box of baking soda in the litter. Takes care of any smell.
