jtlaredo9566 and Cetane+ Thank this.

Nope, not DOT required as far as I know, and had combed thru the regs for this not too far back.
Opendeckin and jtlaredo9566 Thank this. -
Catwalk you say...
-
yes the metal to step on , i have a flatbed rack , the truck came with a stepper but has no catwalk , just asking if its dot requirement to have one on,
-
My truck dont have one either and I've been inspected without anything being said. Think they are more a convenience than a required item.
jtlaredo9566 Thanks this. -
A catwalk is one of those "not-required" DOT items, but if it IS on your truck, it then can be scrutinized by DOT.
(ie. If it has even 1 loose mounting bolt a DOT bear on a bad day can write you up for it). -
It's not required but for your own sake go to a small fabrication shop and have them make you one out of a diamond plate. Should not be too expensive...
-
Many trucks pulling vans dont have them. They are not required, although OSHA and some shippers may have a problem with you stepping on the bare frame.
SafetyMark Thanks this. -
i don't know if i'd use diamond plate. more chance to slip on the snow.
get that other kind. can't think of the name or design but it's geared for traction so you don't slip on the ice and snow.
just make sure there's a support in the middle to hold your body weight.
