I could see people having it on during adverse weather, but you could also look out your window and see if the weather is crappy and slow down for the conditions. The guy who jackknifed is just an idiot.

Well just maybe if he had a CB turned on he wouldn't have been an idiot

Let's see, I have every bit of technology available in 2015, live weather on my GPS, live traffic, hell I even have a temperature gauge on my dash with a little icon to warn me about freezing road surfaces, nothing beats first hand knowledge like one would get from that box I have hanging from my overhead console. You're right, the idiot that jackknifed in front of me wasn't paying attention to his surroundings, I was, I also had something he didn't, a CB. I was prepared, and kept on with my trip, he wasn't, and had all sorts of issues to deal with. In fact, from that black box I also heard the roads were getting worse and that there was multiple truck and car wrecks, because of that knowledge I decided to get off the highway and go to sleep.

This has been a long debated subject. I choose to have one, after all these years I've lost count how many times it's saved me from a situation I just don't want to be involved with. If something can help me I use it, just like my apps on my phone, my GPS or my chains, it's just one more useful tool to protect me from the unknown, if it helps me to stay safe, count me in!

But aren't you using a single channel? So how do you filter out all the garbage trash talk from useful tips? I don't want one for the fact that I don't feel like hearing useless nonsense on there. If I was to use one it may be during winter, in unfamiliar areas, but other than that I don't want one because of all the useless trash talking.

I guess after 35 years of listening to all the garbage and trash, I've developed a built in filter.

You turn up the squelch. When things get bad out there the trash talking seems to die down

Sadly, Americans don't know how to drive in winter. How many times do they need to witness on the TV news endless videos of dangerous speeding on icy roads and slamming on the brakes too short of a stop sign or traffic light? What's the rush? Heading to the cemetery!

Please read the link below and other similar ones online. Hopefully those who stop thinking so recklessly will survive wreckless--and alive!

I love these guys that come on here and want to down the ol' CB radio, and you can tell from their comments they have never run one and don't have a clue. The fact that they are on this particular forum to begin, tells me they really would like to have one, but they are afraid of the stigma that will be attached to them from the other newbies......that also don't have a clue! :D

P.S. What kind of guy would use that weenie wagging Pee Wee Herman as a avatar?????????????
