I ain't reading the whole thread. The OP pretty much let me know who it is with his mini novel. He didn't really ask anything, just whined.

CB ain't for whiners. We don't need you on the channel with us drivers.

I try to use my CB to be helpful and to kind-of reward others to keep it on. I get karma in return, getting tips about wrecks, etc. by-and-by.

I used my CB twice on a run to and from New Orleans yesterday:

The first time was eastbound just off the Mississippi River bridge at Baton Rough when I noticed that westbound traffic was quickly building up and glanced over and saw someone waving traffic away from the left lanes. I didn't see if it was a wreck or breakdown, but I radioed several times heading east, advising the westbound traffic to get in the right lanes near the bridge due to a problem. I did this two or three times for a few miles, but unless I know it's a major problem that will take an hour or two to fix, I don't like to keep the message going out very long for a problem that might already be fixed.

The second time I used it yesterday was simply to let a driver know I was backing-off to let him in into line in front of me at a road construction site. He had gotten caught in a closed lane in the heavy congestion right where two highways merged.

I got several "appreciate it" and "thank-you driver" responses.

IMHO, the CB is dead only for those drivers who aren't using it.

I talk on mine all day every day, both in the truck and in my car. Not sure how it's dying out? Is it as busy as it was in the years past? No. But there's always someone to talk to. Some people won't talk to you if you have a poor sounding radio or a weak signal, just something to keep in mind.

I don't know if we are in a skip; however, channel 19 - 17 & 6 AM were buzzing this morning. Lots of CB traffic out there still.

I've used it to help truckers. I find it useful. I told one bobtail rig his mudflap got hung up on top of his tires. He immediately put on his blinker and pulled over and thanked me. I also had two 4 wheelers merge onto the interstate in front of me and forget that their car had an accelerator pedal. The rig behind me told me to hurry up and swerve into his lane and so I did. It saved me a ton of hard braking. I thanked him with the CB and the tail light flash.

I've also announced in the other direction seeing an accident backing up traffic with a blind hill and seeing big rigs barreling along at 65mph and knowing the traffic was at a dead stop 500 feet ahead I have yelled pretty intently for them to back down that traffic was stopped. I look in side mirror and see brake lights start coming on.

I think the CB can be misused or could be a godsend.

Leave it on, squelched out, always. The is always a real driver with a big radio that feels it's his job (it is!) To shout it out. Bears, jams, Gators, always, every day, all the time.

Don't know though if you only hold the wheel, aim, and turn it on after you see the brake lights.

I run mine squelch all way back in wanna hear everything. Yea lots of it useless and that gets tuned out. In there some times is that glad to know info that saved my bacon. If total silence is what it takes to make some happy what was the point in buying a radio?
