No just the typical all I want is your money truck stop cb shop hacks. A good cb shop will tune it correctly included in the purchase price.

Added: A proper tune would include complete realignment of the radio for optimal performance. Also it would not including clipping a bunch of stuff.

in my opinion, you want to enhance by adding, not cutting.

What happened to the good old days when the radio was good outta the box? I have to wonder if this peaking and tuning isn't a lot of hooey!

A lot of HOOEY? :biggrin_2559: I haven't heard that since my grandma passed! Fact is they are mass produced on production lines and have to be within the fcc requirements. Therefore they will not perform to their full potential. What happened to the good ol days you ask? Technology happened, people learning ways to get more out of something, etc..... The question you asked is like asking what happened to the good ol days when we rode horse and buggies, or when we had no A/C, or when we had only 3 channels on TV.

We always had five channels and you could usually find something to watch. We were probably easier to please back then.

We used to modify the radios but not to the extent they do now. MOSFETs hadn't been invented yet, etc and most of the radios were pretty well locked down. At least without reengineering the modulation or RFsections.

Personally, I woul like to see the test setups and the before and after results with my own eyes.

Cutting the modulator limiter will cause cross-channel splatter and is not recommended by the best techs. My Stryker 490 was tuned but the limiter was left alone.

Dunno of any around Charlotte but there was one in Fayetteville NC I thought was pretty good, but I understand that's a bit far from you.

Could have Sparky's CB shack in Ill do it up for you. He's the CB radio god so they say.

And yes if your tech clipped anything in the radio I'd make him fix it, then NEVER go back. I had a tech clip my old Uniden when I asked him to set it up for a linear. It sounded fine before but it sounded like crap afterwards. Also because he was a truck stop tech, who I try to steer clear of now.

    farmboync Thanks this.
