OK I am having a problem with my CB.
I had to install a new amount, coaxial cable's to bypass a problem with the stock set up. I have attached a picture of my New set up in the hopes that this might assist somebody and tell me what's wrong. Here's my problem,
The CB transmits and receives only with in a very short distance around me. That said you have to be near me in order for it to work, if you are 4 truck lengths away from me I cannot hear you nor can you hear me. Everything else on the CB is set up properly and the SWR Reading is coming up at 1. It was tuned to be at this level.
Any help would be appreciated. Don't mind the bend in my antenna in the picture this is due to Highwinds when I took the photo. I have tried adding a ground to the bottom of the antenna over to the screw that is holding the mirror mount in place however this did not do the trick and only raise my SWR To 3 so I immediately scrapped that
CB poorly transmitting and receiving

go into the truck stop, (Pilot, J, TA) and look in the CB section for what is called a bird perch. it will be a 4-5in long rod with a screw on end. you replace one of your mirror mount bracket screws with that, and mount your base to that. should solve all your problems.
the problem your having is your antennae is not grounded to the vehicle. the bird perch will solve all thatKB3MMX, Nascar_Perry, Blaskowitz and 1 other person Thank this. -
Thank you for answering where I can find one as luckily I get the pass at flying J every day that I'm on the road.
For any Canadians who would be looking for a bird perch mounts, skip Husky's, they never even heard of this product. At least the ones in the Toronto area -
Get that perch ... Huge improvement in your mount and grounds...
rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -

OK just an update. Got the bird perch installed, re-hooked everything up, recalibrated the SWR. On a good side the system is now stable, however my transmission and receiving range are only within a truck length of me in either direction. So I'm not getting the range that I used to get which would've been a fair distance down the highway in front of me.
On calibration, the SWR setting is allowing for channel 40 and one to be fairly close to each other with one being ever so slightly higher on the SWR range, however not significantly much.
The radio check inside my CB is saying everything is passing a test unlike before
I am trying to find out what would limit my range. The antenna is a 1000 W antenna. And for those wondering my radio is a cobra 29LXBT. This radio and antenna worked amazing in the last truck I was in however since switching to this truck I have had nothing but problems.KB3MMX Thanks this. -
post this in the CB section, should get some answers there
